CSR food court fee?

Do you mean the automatic tip at Pepper Market? It's because when you sit to eat there, they do have wait staff that brings you drinks and clears the table. Or, at least they used to, it's been a few years since I've eaten there. You could also get your food to go and avoid the auto tip.

CSR's Pepper Market has a hybrid dining model. A CM will seat you, bring over silverware, drinks, etc. You then take a "ticket" up to each food station, order your food, and they stamp the ticket. Then you pay when you are done based on what is stamped on the ticket. The CM should bring you refills and such while you are there. So you are expected to leave a tip (don't know if its automatically included on the receipt or not), and the food is a smidge more expensive than some of the other QS at resorts. So that may be viewed as a "fee". It's more a pay for what you eat buffet model. And in fact I believe lunch is a true buffet now.

I found the post Hatter is referring to:

What do you mean by they charge you a fee to eat at the food court? Isnt it just a quick service like the rest? We are staying there in December for the first time so any input would be helpful. Thanks!
They charge you a fee. It's a percentage thing, like ten or fifteen percent of whatever you bought.

When you sit down, they hand you a card and when you go to the different stations, they stamp the card for you with whatever you bought. Then you sit and eat. A person brings and (if you aren't unlucky) refills your drink. When you're done, you take your card to a register to pay for everything and they add on a fee.

I don't like the fee (who would?). Like I said, I've been told that part of it goes to the guy who brings your silverware and drink. I've also been told it doesn't. So I don't know if the silverware/drink guy is expecting a tip or what. It's annoying.

It's no better than any other food court, just more complicated and expensive.

ETA: I don't know anything about dining plans. They may waive the fee for DP people. I do know that not everything is on the DPs because I once spent like five minutes trying to get an employee to give me a dessert that wasn't on the dining plan. She kept refusing to give it to me. I kept saying I wasn't on any plan. Someone else finally smiled at me and got it out for me. I was very polite, but I was about to lose it, lol.

You can avoid the fee by taking your stuff to go or eating outside, so I assume the fee is for sitting down in the food court. Eating outside is a good option when it isn't hot, cold, rainy or Love Buggy. :)

It's a real thing, guys. It is an automatic 10% gratuity for the wait staff, which is standard at buffets, not really a "fee." According to this wdwmagic article, the auto gratuity went away when they moved to a standard buffet for breakfast and lunch. It still counts as a counter service meal.

It still applies at dinner, though. If you don't want to pay it, get your food to go.

We stayed there in 2010 and there was no fee to eat in the food court. We were on free dining at that point also. It is a self-serve cafeteria. The only thing the wait staff did was bring drinks. I do remember that they seat you (i.e., it's not like a true cafeteria in that sense). But, I don't recall tipping them? I recall that you would be seated and then get up and go to your food station of choice, get your meal, come back and they would bring your drinks/refill your drinks. I think they also processed your food order if I'm remembering right? I don't remember there being a "check out" once you got your food? So, I guess some might tip them, but I do know there is no "fee" to eat there.

PM is not really a food court (and its employees work for a separate company). It's a TS/CS hybrid, as dreamfinder said. Cafe Rix at CS is more like the usual resort food court, although it's smaller and has fewer options, because PM is there too.

Before PM was a buffet, the 10% tip was not charged automatically if you were on the DDP. Currently it's not charged for the breakfast or lunch buffet.

The 10% tip was NOT a fee "for sitting down in the food court." It was a service charge for getting drinks refilled. If you got food to go and sat outside or in your room, you didn't get your drinks refilled, so you weren't charged the 10%.

Servers didn't (and don't) handle food at all. You used to take your stamped food tickets and pay at a cash register on your way out. Now they want you to give the tickets and payment to your server. (That probably encourages better tipping.) Other than serving and re-filling drinks and handling your payment they also take used plates away.

They charge a 10% fee at dinner. It is based on your total purchase. Two people at the PM told me that 4% of the fee goes to the person who brings over your silverware and drinks. One person told me it isn't true, none of it goes to the silverware/drink person.

I don't know where people are hearing that all of it goes to the silverware/drink guy. I'd like to know, though, as it is confusing.

You still have to go stand in multiple lines to pick up your food court food. And you stand in another line to pay for it. It is not a restaurant with a server.

I've been told here that it is waived for dining plan people, which is nice for them. It is also waived if you go sit outside. Outside is a nice option when it isn't hot, cold or raining.

If you pay no attention to your total due, it would be easy to miss the fact that they charged you a fee. I can see people not knowing they paid it.

You are only charged the fee if you sit down at a food court table...and aren't on a dining plan.

It is something at CSR that kind of irks me.
