Wine and Food Festival Crowds

We are planning on coming to WDW for the weekend of October 20-21. We haven't been at that time of year in years and never for the Wine and Food Festival. Can anyone give me any idea of how crowded it maybe?

The weekends during the Food and Wine festival definitely bring out the locals to Epcot. It definitely gets more and more crowded as the day goes on, so my recommendation to you is to be there at 11am when the booths open and try to have a plan as to which ones you definitely want to go to, as this will save time.

The wife and I are heading up on a Thursday this year, so we can at least enjoy one solid day without the craziness of the weekend.

I agree. The weekends and evenings during the F&W Festival are pretty bad if you have little kids. If not, it's fine. It's actually a lot of fun and like a street party. Beware of intoxicated people, though. We were bumped into many times that trip! I don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer but just be prepared. During the week is much better but still draws a local crowd.

Friday nights and Saturdays are pretty busy. It can take a while to get through a line at some of the more popular stands. You just have to be patient and enjoy all the great food and drinks, especially watching Illuminations.

All previous posters are 150% correct, weekends can get pretty busy. In our experiences, getting there around 11am or so, is best, during the week. F&W is a blast!! Have fun and GO HUNGRY

Thanks everyone for the information. I'm really looking forward to my trip crowded or not. We will be there on a Friday and then the weekend. I can't wait to try the food and I'm ready to eat. No spread sheet to direct us on this trip. We will just see what each moment will bring.

It gets crowded in the WS. The lines for food can be long. Some people, of course, get drunk. People who really like F&W will put up with the lines and the drunks...and still have a great time.

It isn't my favorite time at Epcot, but I'm an old fuddy duddy and not the target audience for F&W. :)

I have to say I'm with you an old fuddy duddy. Since we want to see it and this is when we can, I'll have to put up with it. Might get some great wal mart pictures that I won't be able to post. HA! HA!

Not only are the weekends slammed, but weekdays seem to be getting busier and busier every year. We've been to the Food & Wine Festival in late October or early November for five of the last six years, and every year the crowds are heavier. Visiting Epcot on those weekends is such a hassle that we stay away from Friday afternoon until Monday. However, if my choice was weekend or nothing, I would still go. It's a blast. Bring your patience, serenity, wallet and an empty stomach and have fun!

Can anyone weigh in on what Future World is like on evenings/weekends during Food and Wine? Do the larger crowds stay concentrated in World Showcase, or will the joyously inebriated be staggering from the Biergarten to whoop it up in Captain EO? One possible itinerary for the upcoming trip would have the family covering much of Future World on a Sunday evening during the Food and Wine festival...

They generally stay in the WS. The worst fight I ever heard was on the path from WS to the EO section of the park, though. Young couple, early 20s, swearing like crazy. I can be pretty foul-mouthed at times, but there are some words I would never say and that young woman was spewing them out about another girl. The young man was denying he had feelings for the other girl, but it was obvious he was lying, even to me, lol.

And no wonder he preferred the other girl to Potty Mouth. Almost anyone would be preferable! She was attractive enough, but Yeesh! Needy, giving ultimatums and swearing like a sailor...way to keep a boyfriend, lol.

She was pretty drunk and I was able to pass them, so I don't know how that day ended up for them. I do know the relationship didn't last, though!!! :)

If they have the Neuremburg (sp) sausage in Germany on a pretzel bun. Must get along with the awesome Octoberfest beers there. Have fun!

Thats one of my favorites!

We have been there for the F&W festival before and also went last year...I would say the nights at Epcot can be busy in the World Showcase...but everywhere else isn't that bad...especially the other parks. With F&W and MNSSHP Animal Kingdom and HS are pretty empty. Even EPcot isn't that bad...just world showcase is crowded.

I'm curious how this works... I'm assuming it's a small fee for everything you try?

Each of the booths has a menu of 2-3 food items, priced from $2.50 or so to as much as $5.75 (that'd be for the lamb dishes). It's a small portion of food, some call it tapas-sized, some say appetizer-sized, although I've never been served an appetizer as small as these plates!

Each booth also has a selection of wines and/or beers; the wines are $1.50-$3.00 for a portion that's about 2 oz.

You place your order at each booth, pay for it, and step over and collect your food. Then look for an unoccupied flat surface on which you can eat your snack (especially if it requires a knife and fork to eat, as many do). I can't tell you how many times I've used the top of a garbage can for a table!
