Manta style rollercoaster in Pandora at Animal Kingdom

I really hope Disney has a signature coaster in their Pandora land at Animal Kingdom. Think about it. If they built a "Manta at Seaworld" style flying coaster in Pandora, they could theme it around the dragons that the Na'vi fly on. It would be brilliant! Perfect theming. Perfect flying coaster, Disney style. While this get opened to the public, then they could finally fix the Yeti in a refurbishment.

I think that's unlikely, in that Animal Kingdom is already one of the parks that skews the most toward thrills. Most of the park's signature attractions, Everest, Dinosaur, Kali, and Primeval Whirl (and maybe even ITTBAB) are too much for families with small children. I could see Avatar trying to address that trend with more attractions for everybody.

For some reason, Disney doesn't want cool, State of the Art rollercoasters. they'll build coasters, but they won't build good ones. It makes no sense to me, but it's their park. :)

I like Manta. :)

Not a fan or A-land, especially in the AK, but if it had a good coaster, even I might have to look forward to it. It won't, though. Disney aims more for three and four year olds these days.

I would love that to happen and I love the Idea, but as said before, AK already has it's share of thrills. Disney would probably want to build a couple family friendly rides in Pandora before a thrill ride.

and they WILL build other rides there but without a coaster, what is gonna be their signature ride in that area? Interactive plants wouldn't bring me to that area lol.

A good reason for not building state of the art (high thrill) roller coasters is that they only remain state of the art for a couple years. Thrill rides are an arms race, if you want to compete you have to willing to up the ante every 2 or 3 years. I would much rather see Disney focus on inovative and highly themed attractions that won't loose thier appeal after a couple years.

Not to hijack the thread, but isn't Avatar completely on hold? That's what I heard last week. Apparently, Disney's plans were completely rejected by James Cameron.

FTR, I hated Manta. And I love roller coasters. I found it uncomfortable, disorienting and just far too much pressure on my head.

I think something more like Manta at SeaWorld San Diego would be better than Manta at SeaWorld Orlando. The one in California is a sit down, launch coaster without inversions. The coaster begins in a tunnel where you trains sways back and forth while you watch a film all around you then the door flies open and out you go! The landscaping after the second launch and the queue are lacking, but its a fun coaster using some nice technology.

Manta is one of the best rollercoaster I've ever rode. I don't know if it's a B&M but it was as smooth as one. I thought it was really comfortable and alot of other people do too.

Avatarland is NOT on hold -- Cameron's MOVIES Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are on delay, not Disney's themepark plans...They are going ahead with plans to close Camp Mickey Minnie and move Festival of the Lion King to the Africa area. That will happen very soon.
As to the types of attractions in Avatarland, Disney is being very tight lipped about it. Cameron really has no say at all at what they are doing, although I am sure he is being consulted throughout. The one thing that has been consistently whispered about is that there WILL be thrill rides in Avatarland, and it is NOT being geared fully for family-only attractions. They are competing directly with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter which also has thrill rides in it.
There have been pretty clearly documented posts elsewhere (google my friends) of a new thrill ride vehicle being tested out over at MCO...and some rumors have it that it will be an indoor fast-paced coaster attraction...so the original idea of a flying coaster isn't that far off. At one time they had a patented ride concept of duelling indoor racing coaster spaceships for a Star Wars coaster at DHS which never materialized. Don't be surprised if a similar attraction appears at Avatarland with redesigned theming and vehicles.
But I think we need to make sure that rumors like "Avatarland is on hold" are not perpetuated, as well as the notion that it is going to be a "100 percent family friendly land"...

Awesome information! :D I hope it's all true! Not that I'm overly excited about Avatarland, but I am excited for something new.

By the way, it isn't necessarily true that coasters are too intense for Disney -- anyone who has been to Disneyland Paris knows that Space Mountain there is a fully-realized coaster with inversions, corkscrews, loops and is NOT a family-coaster like the one at WDW...

I have no proof one way or the other, but all reports and information I've read says that Cameron and Disney are having creative differences. I've read nothing to the contrary.

Actually, there's an entire thread about this in another WDW forum saying that it has, in fact, been delayed according to a "popular entertainment site".

Blame that on Walt. He wanted to build parks where families can experience the attractions together. Silly man had no clue how to build a park. :p
