Celebratory Dinner?

Ok so let me have it?

What place are you picking to have your celebratory "YAY! I ran a half or a full marathon" dinner? I haven't chosen yet altho my DH is leaving it all up to me since he's not the one running.

Another question....

What day are you going to eat this dinner? Sunday? Later in the vacation?

We ate at 'Ohana after our first marathon in 2011. This time I have a ressie at Le Cellier. You have to do it on Sunday! You will be starving! Plus it is great to wear your medal to dinner and have all the cast members congratulate you!

Lets see. First marathon was POFQ counter service then airport McDonalds. 2nd marathon was Jiko. 3rd and 4th were goodness knows what as there were in Vermont and Illinois. 5th was Artists Point.

I'm of mixed minds about it. First thought, something nice is a good way to celebrate. Second thought, my body is usually either so far out of it to not care, or so hungry it just wants food with no regard for what it tastes like. Third thought, some days I've just passed out afterwards for like 4 hours straight.

Have you done any long distance races yet to know how your body will handle it afterwards? Spending the money at something nice may end up being wasted if either you can't keep it down (entirely possible) or if you just are craving carbs or sugars. If it's your first race, and you will be there for a few days after I'd almost say do something safe day of. Then day after (when everyone will be wearing their medals anyway) do something a bit nicer as a celebration.

I have one half marathon under my belt and will have a couple more under my belt before this marathon but yeah I am kind of scared how my body is going to react. I was fine after the first half I did, although I know that I will be doubling that mileage for a full. My plan was to just grab some counter service at POFQ (since that is where we are staying) when I get back to rest up. Then after a good long nap, grab a much nicer place to eat. That is my plan anyway, I may be completely crazy thinking this way tho, I don't know.

We are staying for a week and a half after the race so some nice meals will be thrown in there for sure. And you better believe I am going to be wearing my medal everyday. This is going to be a huge accomplishment for me!!

Definitely on the day of the race!

I think we are going to do Jiko on Sunday night as the "Yay we did it" dinner. We will be having dinner at the "Be Our Guest" restaurant in the Fantasyland expansion at some point during the trip so depending on when we can get reservations for that it might end up being our celebratory dinner.

We are going to try to get Be Our Guest too. Can't wait till we can start booking those reservations. I decided that I wanted Victoria & Alberts for my true celebratory dinner but because I have a friend coming up from West Palm Beach to cheer me on, I pushed that ressie off until Wednesday. Going to do something much cheaper on Sunday. Thinking about Flying Fish but it's a toss up between that and Jiko.

Oh Victoria and Albert's should be fantastic. We were seriously considering it but with our limited time there it doesn't seem like its going to fit.

From the pictures I have seen of Be our Guest I might not care what the food tastes like because it looks beautiful.

We will do it day of the race...when we race in the morning, we go to Beaches and Cream for a Kitchen Sink. If we race at night, then we go to Kona Cafe the next morning for Tonga Toast.

I actually want to go get Beaches and Cream that day too! My guess is it is going to be packed with fellow marathoners and their family/friends.

It's going to be the day after the race since the Tower of Terror 10-miler starts at 10pm.

Celebratory dinner? Possibly the Brown Derby, Big River Grille, Flying Fish, Kouzzina, or Fulton's Crab House if me or my parents can get in without an advanced reservation. If I cannot, then Mangino's at the Shades of Green. Need to celebrate!

Of course there is a ton of food during the International Food and Wine Festival.

The day of the half - 'Ohana (our celebratory meal after the marathon last year...probably the first time I've eaten my money's worth there!)

The day of the full - Currently we have an ADR at Narcoossee's, but might change it to Jiko or Be Our Guest. :)

I don't think I could eat 'Ohana the day before the full! I would want to eat to much and would weigh myself down. I think we are going to try Big River Grille after the half and Le Cellier after the full.

A very valid point. I'm going to have to pace myself!
