Offsite and EMH

We have never stayed offsite (i love the crazu decorations of the resorts). But I was wondering how they would know that you were offsite and can't stay for the evening extra magic hours? I understand that you wouldn't be able to use the early ones but why not the evening ones if you just stay in the park?

They check room keys in general... some CM's really look and examine, others just gaze at it. You could certainly stay inside the gate but no rides.

one could use an old room key, I've noticed a majority of CM's just gaze and don't actually look at a date.

You have to show your room key to enter stores or ride queues. As well, they have CMs at various choke-points that will ask to see it before allowing you to pass in any direction other than the gate.

If you're very careful, you could probably wander around, but do nothing.

Sure you could give that a try, but it only takes one CM to spoil that plan.

oh of course, I wouldn't try it myself... just saying I noticed a lot of cm's barely caring at all. Some though took it from my hand and reviewed.

Unfair to the guests that actually pay extra to stay on property to be able to use this benefit. If you want to use EMH, then stay on property.

Do they not do the wristbands anymore? I guess we haven't done EMH for a while (DH is a park wimp!) but I seem to remember there being CMs that gave out wristbands at various locations after swiping your room key.

No the wristband thing stopped a few years ago because people were finding ways around it. Of course there is some irony because as you can see above, people also can find away around showing the room key. I would think that with the attention FPs had recently re: CMs making sure they are for the valid time and date etc. that the checking of the room keys for EMH is less than a "glance" but I'm sure some CMs are just lazy about it.

Disney went away from wristbands a couple of years ago.

Wait until they start using the RFID in your room key at the entrance to the rides. This is just a guess, but it would make sense for Disney to use the technology they have in place. This would take some of the burden off of the CM's checking every KttW card.
