Disney Princesses and the Queen of England

When I was at World of Disney in March I was told by a CM that the Queen of England herself decides who is a "Disney Princess." Why is this? Also, why is it that there are Disney Princesses who are not actually princesses (Pocahontas, Mulan) while there are characters who are princesses (Eilonwy, Nala, Kiara, Kida) who have not been labeled "Disney Princesses"?

I'm sure there's some story behind this. How did the Queen of England get this responsibility and how the heck does she choose?

Did they offer to sell you some swampland? I think that they were messing with your mind.

Seriously?? She said it when she was helping me find a princess wallet for my niece. I know they have coronation ceremonies in England...

She may have, but I've never heard of this, and it sounds rather silly.

That's what I thought! The girl said something along the lines of, "Oh yeah, like, Mulan and Pocahontas aren't really princesses, because like, Pocahontas is just the daughter of like, a chief. But like, the Queen of England has the say on who becomes an official princess and then have the like, coronation in England." I know the second part is true, but I had never heard the part about the queen. Until someone confirms, I'm going to call BS.

I think it has something to do with Rapunzel's official coronation as tenth princess this spring, in England. Well it's in London, and there is an actual queen there, so one and one makes two.

Possibly the myth started there, a fun story to tell the little girls. (And also the big girls about to get married!

Good to know :-) Funny because I've been repeating this to other people since March

Point..Match..Score one for the Crimson!

Wow! That was really annoying.

They do not call them Princess Pocahontas or Princess Mulan. Although often pictured with princesses Disney points out that they are not princesses but their heroism and character is like a princess.

I do find it interesting that she only has two countries where she has titles in more than one language. Canada English/French and UK English/Latin.
