Impressed with DVC over limited price increase

Did you know that although Disney increased their prices, DVC can get their annual passes for only 6.00 more than before. DVC used to offer the passes for 100.00 off the regular price, now they are offering it for 149.00 off. I'm impressed that DVC is actually offering something I can use!

Yea, I was just looking at that too. I am a bit relieved. I was thinking of not renewing my AP when we go in the fall. Now, however, I am looking at the $410 to renew versus the $367 for a 7 day park hopper, and renewing the AP is looking a lot better.

I think it's still cheaper with the 7 day... I just go two times a year and to two 5 days or 10 days no expiration is much more.

Personally I see it highlighting the 'other' risk of DVC. With no guaranteed ticket media.. your use of DVC will always be hinged on ticket pricing. It's great to think your hotel costs will always be predictable.. but your cost of tickets is always out of your control.

I agree, somewhat. I say this because when I first heard about the $50 hike, I started thinking about Hilton Head and Vero Beach for future vacations. I can still use my points effectively there, and spend far less on other costs than at WDW.

Where your statement is short is the fact that this is not a risk of DVC, as that risk applies to all people.

If I don't goto wdw - I don't owe anyone anything. If you don't go, you still gotta pay your fees.

You are banking on wdw being affordable for your guests for the next 40 years. Non dvc aren't making any gamble... Just rolling with whatever comes along and deciding then.

Of course, the ticket prices and hotel prices could soar and I will still have a reasonable price at a deluxe resort. It's always a gamble. There is no way to predict what will happen.

Meh. Ticket prices and hotel rates are going to increase regardless of whether one owns DVC or not. DVC ownership means that the accommodations are already pre-paid, eliminating one of the two uncertainties.

And the AP discount certainly does help since it's saving my family $600 per year off of non-DVC AP prices.

If the day comes that we no longer wish to pay Disney's ticket prices, we'll deal with it then. It could mean using our points for a non-park destination. Could mean visiting a WDW resort without even entering the parks. Or we may choose to buy 10-day non expiring passes and spread them over 4-5 visits.

If all else fails we'll simply sell the DVC points and be thankful for the thousands of dollars we saved--and happy memories we made--over the years.

Not sure what your point is. Most people that bought into DVC plan on going to WDW. I doubt that tickets going up $6 will deter anyone. If I thought a small price increase would deter me from going in the future I wouldn't have bought in. If DVC doesn't work for you don't buy in. I am not going to post on here telling you that you should have bought in. Why do people feel the need to point out their perceived negatives. Someone started this thread to compliment DVC for providing its members a nice benefit.

That was my whole point. To post something I thought was a pretty good thing. I thought it was pretty cool that they only raised 6.00 when I was dreading the huge increase that the AP tickets increased. It was nice to have that little perk. I was happy, and I wanted to share

The wording makes it sound like you said that the other risk specific to DVC was no guaranteed ticket media. Obvisously, you know that applies to virtually everyone, not just DVC.

It now sounds like you are linking mandatory theme park admission with use of DVC. Perhaps you don't know that is not required, so it will not "always" be hinged on ticket pricing.

Then in your other post, you said (essentially) if you don't go to WDW, you don't owe anything to anyone. DVC'ers do. However, if you go most anywhere on vacation, you will have to pay somebody something. If you don't go on vacation ever again, then yes you won't pay anyone anything. Of course, a DVC'er making that choice would sell in that case.

The point was buying into WDW hotels.. with the notion that 'it will be cheaper and fixed price!' overlooks to goto WDW means also being willing to pay WDW prices. A regular tourist can 'walk away' at anytime. DVC owners have hooks in them that make that decision to 'walk away' much harder.

The arguements of 'well I don't have to go every year, I can rent or bank'.. doesn't really work when the challenge is ticket prices are higher than you are willing to pay for the experience.. which is the main argument over the current ticket increases.

Yes but 'everyone' (excluding DVC) are not obligated to to keep paying those prices and are free to take their business elsewhere. DVC can only defer buying temporarily without the whole thing making no sense.

But if I skip vacation - I don't owe. If I don't like vacation 'A' offerings, I'm free to chose vacation 'B'. The point was you are helpless to tell Disney 'I do not like what you are offering, and will speak with my wallet'. You can defer slightly, but you are not free to change course and show Disney you aren't happy with the offering.

Again. I am still missing your point. When we bought in to DVC we knew that ticket prices, food and airfare would go up. That has not changed. In the ticket price increase thread someone did the math and the average price increase over the last 5 years was around 5%. Not sure how you figured out the price doubled. If your only point is that you can walk and not go to Disney while we can't since we are locked in then i am happy for you that you somehow feel you got one one over on the DVC owners. I will be enjoying my vacations while you sit at home counting the money you saved.

To me this just sounds like sour grapes. DVC members got a benefit that others didn't so you feel the need to point out your perceived negatives to DVC. There are plenty of "is DVC worth it"threads where all these arguments were made. Again, someone complimented Disney for doing something good and you find a negative spin. I guess some people never see the glass as half full.

I guess being a SWP&E Platinum card holder makes me a bit different there. That and regularly heading to Daytona races. I am DVC but have other options than just WDW Parks.
