I’m so excited to let you know that there will soon be a new place to satisfy your sweet tooth at the Disneyland Resort. In late spring 2012, a new Ghirardelli location will open at the Pacific Wharf area, inside Disney California Adventure park!

The soda fountain and chocolate shop, similar to the location at Downtown Disney in the Walt Disney World Resort – which has been a must-do for me (and many of you, I’m sure) for 13 years – will feature Ghirardelli’s world-famous hot fudge sundaes and chocolate products. And each guest will be able to receive complimentary samples of their signature Ghirardelli Squares chocolate!

You can find out more about Ghirardelli – their chocolate treats, products and gifts – by checking out their Facebook page.

I know I’ll be counting down the days until I can get my Ghirardelli hot fudge sundae! Who’s with me?

It's about time they announced this! I know I can't wait. :sohappy:

Yet another thing to add to DCA's list of opening attractions in 2012! I'm really looking forward to this and I'm glad they will still be handing out free samples here.

TheOCRegister has more info here:

Ghirardelli, a company that started in 1852 and has the historic Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, plans to retain the San Francisco feel of the Pacific Wharf area of the park.

"With the culmination of our expansion only a few months away, it is an exciting time at Disney California Adventure, and we look forward to partnering with Ghirardelli in bringing this delicious chocolate experience to our guests."

The new shop will hand out free Ghirardelli Squares chocolate samples, as well as selling products. The fountain will feature popular sundaes topped with fresh hot fudge that is made daily, Hough said. The location also will include some Disney-like features, but Hough said the company is still working on the details. "I think we're going to be a huge crowd pleaser," Hough said.

Who wants to bet this place will officially open on June 15th?!?! lol

Al Lutz says they are opening Ghirardelli earlier, on purpose to avoid June 15th. From Mr. Lutz's update a month ago...

In other DCA news, the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain project is moving along nicely, and its grand opening is now slated for Tuesday, June 5th. On that day they will have a ribbon cutting ceremony and a big ice cream social, in order to get the location up and running well in advance of the frenzy aimed at June 15th.

The walls are down and the new location is set to open next week, June 7th!

Last week, we told you about the unveiling of Carthay Circle Theatre and the fountain in Carthay Circle. And today, just around the corner, the new Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop has emerged in the Pacific Wharf area at Disney California Adventure park. In the photos above by Paul Hiffmeyer, you can see the new location – but you’ll have to wait until the shop opens on June 7 to taste the delicious chocolates and sundaes that will be served here!

It really looks great, the new brick facade is a nice detail. Can't wait to visit next week.

Looks great! What's on the second floor?

There is only one floor there, but the second set of windows make it look like a multi-level building :)

There are high ceilings inside (to accomodate the tortilla machinery that were there previously) but I don't know what modifications they have made for the new soda shop.

Thanks. I was thinking that would be a nice place to enjoy a sundae up there.

And thanks for all the great posts. We're going for half-marathon weekend. Can't wait!

Stopped in and got a cookie bottom sundae last night around 9. The whipped cream was absurdly thick, but overall the experience was pleasant. Couldn't have been inside ordering/waiting for more than 5 minutes, and the place was busy but not insane (the short line out the door moved very efficiently). In the future I'll probably get straight ice cream rather than a sundae.

Stopped by for a look yesterday and it really looks great. If you didn't know it you would never guess it used to be a giant tortilla factory before. The free chocolate squares are an added bonus and the seating area outside adds some life to what was previously only a walkway into Pacific Wharf.

The hidden gem is this beautiful three-dimensional mural that features animated props and sounds. The sky changes from day to night depending on what time of day you visit, and there's different effects that are triggered whenever a certain menu item is ordered. Pretty cool!

Ghirardelli is now officially open! Here's a short video of the opening ceremony earlier today:

This morning, Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis and Disney California Adventure park Vice President Mary Niven joined Ernst Tanner, CEO, Lindt & Sprüngli AG, to officially open Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop at Disney California Adventure park. It was a sweet ceremony, complete with chocolate, sundaes, confetti and Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse! Take a look:

Cute short and to the point opening. I love seeing the articulated Mickey and Minnie in use much more around DLR. Nice to also see the Christmas Fantasy costumes lol

This ice cream shop is set up so well. Having separate ordering areas and pickup areas with multiple counters speeds things up a lot. I got a hot fudge sundae last night and it was up and ready really quick. Unfortunately they accidentally put nuts on it, even though I requested no nuts, so it had to be made again. Didn't take long for them to remake the whole thing, and she even offered me a bonus scoop, but I can't eat that much. It was delicious, but I couldn't eat my way through it. The chocolate on the waffle bowl was so rich I could only take a few bites before I had to surrender.

Over the course of the night I also ended up with 3 sample chocolates. Lovely bonus.
