A ride from the early 90s help

Im going to WDW in Nov with my mom. The last time she was there was 1990, and when I asked her what ride she really wanted to go on again she said "Haunted Mansion and that place where they did a 3D & sound effects show."
Im thinking she means somewhere in Epcot? When she explained it a bit better she said something about it sounding like people were right behind you and putting stuff in your hair, etc.
Does anyone know what attraction this is and if it still exists?

I believe your mom is remembering the Monster Sound Show from Disney MGM (now Hollywood) Studio. Audience members were selected to help create sound effects which were then overlaid on a black and white movie starring Martin Short and Chevy Chase. At the exit to this attraction was a hands-on area where guests could learn about the sound effects process. There were several private booths which contained headsets; the booth went dark and so your sense of hearing was intensified as you listened to a short audio feature which involved getting a haircut.

Monster Sound Show was replaced by Sounds Dangerous (starring Drew Carey) but the interactive sound effects area remained. Sounds Dangerous has permanently closed, but I don't know if the sound effect area is still open or not.

Anyone know?

It is closed as well. It is currently being used for carbon freezing.

If she wants a similar experience, there are sound booths at Conservation Station in Animal Kingdom that play "The Sounds of the Rainforest" (or something like that) hosted by Grandmother Willow.

We took in those booths on our last visit. Wonderful effects that make you believe you are in the midst of the rainforest. Something that should not be missed when visiting the Conservation Station.
