How do you rate here for a QS. Looking at the 3 bays [ not 3 bears ] In bay 1 they serve 1/2 chicken & BBQ Rib combo[still cannot believe that's 1 credit] with mash potato and veg for $14.19. That's a lot of food for one person surely?

It's our favorite QS in MK and one of our favorites period.

The food is good and the atmosphere is fun. I always get the combo and have no problem eating it all, lol!.
We always use it for a lunch spot and to get out of the heat; it serves really well for that. Cosmic Rays is great! :sohappy:

Cosmic Ray's is our pick for eating at the MK to! Never tried the ribs though. We usually just go with the 1/2 chicken. Our kids are 9 and 10 so we just get 3 meals b/w the 4 of us and share. I love when we can do that!

I have seen that exact combo at Cosmic Ray's listed online as a great way to get the most "bang for your buck" from counter-service, with the assumption, of course, that two people split it if paying out of pocket, or one person orders it on the DDP. :)

I'll be honest, it has never been my favorite. I want to like because Sonny Eclipse is awesome, but I have just never really enjoyed the food. It's probably my least favorite counter service at Magic Kingdom. I much prefer Pecos Bill's and Columbia Harbor House.

Ok,excuse my lack of know how,but who or what is Sonny Eclipse?

http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Sonny_Eclipse

Sonny Eclipse is an audio-animatronic singer who plays an astro-organ found exclusively in Walt Disney World. More specifically, he is found in the restaurant Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe in Magic Kingdom. He provides jazz music for the guests in the Starlight Lounge while they eat. His whole audio loop is roughly 25 minutes. [1][2]

Sonny Eclipse is an animatronic alien that "performs" a lounge act during your meal.

We have eaten at Cosmic Rays twice. Both times it was a mad house. To the point where I was standing there with trays of food and could not find a table. The layout with 3 bays can be very inconvenient if your family wants things from different bays. This can require you to wait in line three times!

Frankly, the most recent trip was a nightmare. If we ever go there again, it's because something has gone horribly wrong.

I did try the chicken and ribs combo. It was okay. Great bang for the buck on the meal plan. The food was decent, but nothing exceptional. The rest of my family was less impressed with the food. My wife had a chocolate cake that was very clearly freezer burned.

I know a lot of people around here love Cosmic Rays. They do have a nice fixin's bar. But I will never go back into that place during a regular meal time. It's not worth it.

Sonny is the audioanimatronic extraterrestrial "lounge entertainer" (whew!) on the keyboard in Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. If you have ever listened to the WDW Official Album, you may have heard him sing, "Bright Little Star".

One good change now at Cosmic Ray's is that you must be eating lunch in order to get a seat in the Lounge area; you can no longer walk in from outside just to catch his show. There are hosts and hostesses to secure a table for you and your party. We were just there in April, so don't know how long this has been in effect.

When we were there in 2010, there were cms stationed to keep people from taking a seat to watch the show. But they would not assist you in finding a table at all. We had 2 little kids, a double stroller and trays of food. And they just stared at us.

Other less encumbered parties were able to zoom in and snatch tables the second they opened up. We finally just stood near a cluster of tables waiting for someone to finish their meal.

You had to clean your own tables after someone left because if you waited for someone to come around and clean it, it would be taken.

Another pet peeve, groups of one or two occupying tables that accomodated much larger groups. We saw a lot of that.

Another "must do-er" here for Cosmic Rays. We've always enjoyed the chicken sandwiches here. Never had the burgers as I tend to skip "park burgers", but we've liked everything else we have had.

Absolutely agree. Three bays? :hammer: Last time I walked in there, it was because my daughter wanted a cheeseburger. Three bays, and no kids cheeseburger. When I asked, the CM looked at me like I was crazy. Only went there because the DH and DS were eating at Noodle Station (no comment), and I figured that had to be the closest cheeseburger. Normally, we are Pecos Bill and Columbia Harbor House fans!

Sounds like your last experience was not a good one and in years past we have had trouble too. On this trip when a party w/food reached the entry of the lounge (queue forms here), there was a hostess with a head mike and a corresponding host (with head mike) in the lounge locating available tables. Seating for guests seemed to be a lot faster and more efficient. This system seemed to prevent small parties from commandeering large tables and camping out.

That would have made a HUGE difference. Hopefully it is standard practice during peak meal times.

After our last two experiences at Cosmic Rays, I could not drag my wife back in the place. Even suggesting it would result in a revolt. But I'm glad to hear they have addressed the problem.

You just HAD to go and post that picture and make me drool! :slurp:

Cosmic Rays is our favorite CS restaurant by far. Love the chicken and ribs. Love Sonny's show. Can't comment on the crowds because we almost always tend to have a very early breakfast to get to the parks before opening so we eat lunch at 11:30 to beat the lunch crowds.
