It's probably not related, but I can't help but wonder if this work is being done in preparation for the DAK Rainforest's potential closure which would in turn would be in preparation for the building of Avatar(land).

I wasn't aware that DAK's rainforest would be closing for Avatar. Hopefully they have several dining locations in the new land if that is the case. AK is sorely lacking in the dining dept. I can only go to Flame Tree so many times.

This was my thought entirely. As for the DAK Rainforest Cafe, the rumor from Jim Hill was that the land may be needed for World of Avatar. If so, the Rainforest Cafe would either be removed, or relocated to the other side of the entrance plaza

I think it is really just a case of the DTD location desperately needing it. The exterior is in pretty rough shape.

Which is why I said "potential closure", meaning it's possible, but unknown. Although, I will say that the last few times I've been through there, the restaurant wasn't very crowded.

Sounds like a fairly extensive refurb - good news! The exterior in particular was looking pretty worn during my last trip, and a new lounge area sounds like a good idea.

An updated Volcano will be part of the refurbishment...

I hope the new volcano will be like the one in Galveston, TX. Here is a YouTube video (not mine) that shows the eruption for those who haven't seen it.

Water fountains, fiber optics and giant fire balls you can't go wrong!

Rainforest Cafe - New Concept Art photos!

The Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney recently posted some new concept art photos for the refurbishment of the cafe. Some particulars in the construction include; Realistic volcano with some realistic lava, new water features along with a new bar called Lava Lounge

Check out the photos:

Apparently the volcano will erupt every once in a while.

It appears the entrance to the cafe will be relocated.

New Lava Lounge.

Special thanks to OTPN for pictures.

They have one of the most choice locations with views over the lake that has always seemed underutilized to me. Perhaps that is changing as part of this plan. Never occured to me they would build a better volcano but this is perfect for the 'new and improved' DTD.

Thumbs up!

Those images posted above have an odd "look" to them. I see what they're going, but I can't say that I've seen compositions or renderings that look like photographic images processed with a horrible, and probably free, iPhone app.
