A couple questions about the WDW anniversary buttons

Hey there everyone! My boyfriend is graduating college in May, and his mom is paying for a vacation for the two of us as a graduation present. I know, so wonderful of her! :sohappy:

I came upon a page talking about special occasion buttons, and it made me realize that my boyfriend and I will be going to WDW in early/mid March, a week before our one-year anniversary. I just wanted to see if anyone knew if they were only for anniversaries for married couples, or if dating anniversaries count too. I don't want to infringe on something that's not really intended for me, but the idea of having cast members wishing us a happy anniversary when they see the buttons, and getting free cupcakes and stuff like that just seems so exciting and, well...magical.

The only info I could find was someone telling a woman that they probably wouldn't ask her to prove she was married or anything, and therefore she could get an anniversary button for her and her boyfriend, despite them not being married. The only problem with that is that since I'm also a guy, most people won't assume that my boyfriend and I are married when they hear "anniversary." So I can't benefit from the same assumptions she did. I know Disney has Gay Days and is pretty gay-friendly, but I'm wondering:

a) Do we qualify for anniversary buttons? (Especially since we couldn't really get married even if we wanted to, living in Tennessee and all)
b) What's the likelihood of encountering cast members who aren't 100% happy to wish us a happy anniversary, if we DO get the buttons? I would love to get the buttons and have an amazing experience, but I don't want to get them if it would basically be inviting people to make things awkward/uncomfortable.

If you read all that, thank you! Looking forward to getting some responses.

DH and I received our anniversary pins when we arrrived at our resort as I had listed it when we schedule the trip and when we did the on-line check-in. There was one day, I think it was our actual anniversary, that we forgot the pins when going to the MK. There is a celebration pin set up at the MK where we got replacements made up. So long and short of it, there are several ways you can get them, so enjoy and happy anniversary!

Thanks for the quick replies! I feel a lot better about it now. Now I just have to hope that my boyfriend isn't too embarrassed to agree to wear his. :ROFLOL:

Definitely wear it. They don't ask for a marriage license.

We went to WDW around our 5th dating anniversary and we wore them. I also wore a "HAppy Birthday" button all week in December even though my birthday had been in April since it was a birthday present trip. Enjoy!

You'll be fine! My DH and I got them when we were dating.... in fact, I'm going to wear them again on our next trip since we'll be celebrating our wedding anniversary this time. They are very loose about giving out those pins

I agree with totally acceptable. Nobody will ask for details and I'd find it hard to imagine that anyone would make any rude or uncomfortable comments. Have fun!!

Luckily when we went on honeymoon, disney dream had just married pins. So we wore them in Parks too. Its incredibly stupid that they stopped making them in the parks. Happily ever after pins are boring. People want "Just Married"

They are so easy to get....just dont ask for a Just Married pin because Disney decided to be so PC that they no longer make them

Everything I had heard is that they started only giving them out to people who used the Disney Wedding Planner services. Everyone else gets the happily ever after.

But for the OP, go for it. No CM at Disney will say anything to you negative. And you should get the same congratulations as anyone else would from wearing it.

If you are still concerned, you could simply ask for the "Congratulations", or "Celebrating" pins.

Hubby and I didnt get anniversary pins for our anniversary at Disney. we stopped at guest services at MK and they had congratulations, etc. pins you could choose from. Try some of those, instead, if you want to...

They stopped giving them out because supposedly too many people complained that it was not PC to have a pin that said just married and have cinderella and prince charming on there...
