My sister is returning today from WDW. She was on the QSDP and got a purple mug from All Stars. She was staying at POP. She mentioned the mug told them it expired on 12/24. Also, she can see the chip.

I don't get why people don't just buy a new mug? It's like 12.99 plus tax, at that price a steal!!

How is that a steal? Personally, I brought back my old mug...though it was from earlier this year...but barely used it. These mugs are so inconvenient to use. I eat either on my way to or from a park, so I would either have to backtrack to my room before heading to a park or go to my room first and backtrack to the food court. I don't eat that often at the resort anyway so I would save MAYBE $6 the entire trip by bringing an old mug...using a new one I would be out $7 since I won't have used it enough. Make the mug $20 and let people re-fill in the parks, and THEN maybe it would be worth it.

It depends on your usage. I am of the same vein as you. I stop in the food courts on my way to, or back from, a park. So I don't want to carry a mug around either.

To add to it, I don't drink much soda at all. Mainly coffee and water (from the fountains - it is just fine for me). So for me a mug does not pay at all - so I don't get one.

However, for a lot of people, they drink LOADS of soda, and an $13 mug pays for itself very quickly. Different usage patterns for different people.

Last year we had the mugs and only used it in the morning when one of us would grab food or at night when we would walk to our room then back to the food court for dinner then back to the room.

The best way to make uses of the mugs is to have a rental car, then you can have them with you all the time when you are not at the parks.

Well we come along way accross that big blue sea,and it takes two years to get to WDW so our last four trips we always buy new mugs to make our memories last when we get home, but hey,if you stay near the world and visit many times in the same year,i see the point.

With the new RFID system there is no reason why Disney should not do this, other than greed. I would like a better shape cup if they do this though. They are awkward to pack and bring to the park.

The chipped mugs still work at all non RFID machines at other resorts. For now. This is just a test system at All Stars Sports.

And I doubt she sees the chip. She's seeing a colored marker refrence that should be hidden. The RFID chip is inside the mug in the bottom and unless you crack the mug open or hold it up to a very, very strong light that can illuminate through two pieces of thick plastic.
