Does Disney ever offer Free Dining to DVC Members?

It's one of the big tradeoffs when you decide to purchase DVC...you no longer can use dicounts unless you pay cash for them and don't use your points. When discounts are plentiful like they are now, it seems kind of unfair. However, if you planned out for the long run you should come out better when your contract is done.

Precisely! DVC is the BEST discount in the long run - especially since resort room rates go up each year.

There has been a lot of complaining in DVC circles lately that all the discounts are affecting the value of membership. I think people forget to realize that when you buy you can't think of what is being offered right now...you have to think about what will be offered in 30 years. In a booming economy discounts will be harder to come by, but my points will still hold the same value.

That's true Evan. I was thinking in the now. But you are 100 % right. Our points will always be the better option for booking. Would be nice though every now and then to throw some discounts out there. I know we get a discount on AP and some event tickets, such as MVMCP and MNSHP. Even if they offered the dining plan at a discount, wouldn't be bad either.

Unfortunately, everything is a different cost center within the company and each one is trying to raise their bottom line. DVC has to negotiate with all the other entities in order to get us discounts and benefits and I am sure that these aren't always the easiest to come by.

Any time Disney offers discounts on rooms or Free Dining, etc. it's for one reason: to fill empty rooms. The DVC resorts run very close to capactity year-round, and thus they have no reason to offer things like Free Dining.
