Boat from Epcot to Boardwalk

A friend of mine is staying at the Hilton at DTD. Her husband wants to watch the OSU game at the ESPN zone at 7. They are walking from the Hilton to DTD. From there, they plan to catch a bus to Epcot. They aren't visiting Epcot that day. They just want to take the boat from Epcot to the Boardwalk. Is that possible without entering Epcot? If so, how much time should they allow for the whol trip?

It is not possible to get to the Epcot boat dock without walking through Epcot from the Bus Stop.

They should just take a Bus from DTD to the Boardwalk Hotel, that will be their best bet.

If they're really interested in getting to the Boardwalk via the boats they could take a bus from DTD to DHS. You can access the DHS boats without entering the park from the bus stop.

This also wouldn't be possible because there is no bus from DTD to any of the theme parks. If they want to go to the Boardwalk they just have to take the bus from DTD to the resort.

I never realized that. Well, that makes sense. Also makes the decision that much easier!

I suppose they could take the hotel shuttle to DHS if they really wanted to take the boatride to the Boardwalk. But I think he's pretty determined to make the game as soon as possible. So, I'm guessing they'll take the most expedient route.

Actually that might be the best route. The bus service to DTD can be incredibly bad especially when traffic starts to build around it and the buses take the back way in. Personally, I would never use DTD as a transportation hub unless I had no other option. If they already plan on being at DTD then take the direct bus to the Boardwalk. If They are starting from their resort I would go the DHS route and either walk or take the boat (walking tends to be quicker unless you catch the boat just right).

You stop at roughly four other hotels after the Hilton on your way over to the parks. And even though they're supposed to come every 30 minutes, sometimes they simply don't. We waited more than an hour for an MK shuttle one afternoon, which was so painful.

Once we figured it out, we preferred to walk across the street to DTD and hop on a Disney bus. The walk to DTD is nothing and the service is far better. Especially if you're traveling to a hotel I think that might be the better way to go.

The DTD hotel busses might be poor, but they are miles better than transportation provided by other off site resorts.

There are very few cardinal rules I give when advising friends about Disney trips, but one is don't stay off property without a rental car.

Taking a hike over to Downtown Disney, and getting on the Disney bus is the way to go.

There's a bit of a trick to using the Disney buses from the Hilton, by the way. As far as I know, there are not Disney buses from DTD directly to the parks, so if you want to go from DTD to a park you will have to stop at a hotel somewhere in between. (Someone please chime in if this isn't right.) It pays to be smart about which hotel to stop at, depending on your eventual destination. For example, if you're going from DTD to MK, going by way of AKL is probably a strategic mistake. Your friends should get a hold of one of the detailed Disney area maps (the whole WDW property) to figure out which hotel(s) are reasonable midpoints on various journeys. They have such maps in the Hilton lobby.

THis is what I was thinking.
