Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

Mr. Toad really was not a great ride. At all... end of story. Winnie the Pooh was a significant trade-up in terms of ride-for-ride value.

For those of you who are still remenessing and haven't been over to Disneyland lately, go ride it and you'll be like "oh...that's it?"

I'm just saying...

I went to DLR last year and had the same reaction as you described above.

I'm hoping someday management will notice how big a following some of the retro merch actually gets (or, I assume they get), like the EPCOT Center/logo t-shirts, or the retro-Walt Disney World merchandise. Maybe they'll get wise and actually re-implement them, seeing as the logos are easier changes than revivals of dark rides.

Must agree. The impression I got from Pooh after riding it for the first time (admittedly, I was pretty young) was that it was a lot better and more high-tech than Toad. Sorry Toad fans!

If they brought it back the "clone police" would be up in arms.

It's really not possible to please everyone.

So why try?

I humbly accept this title of clone police. :goodnevil

The DL version of Mr. Toad got a significant refurb and upgrade and is 10 times better than the WDW version ever was. The WDW version featured 2 different ride tracks however, but either way, you wound up in H-E-L-L!!!

Either way, while I'm sad that Mr. Toad no longer goes merrily merrily on his way in WDW, I have been able to go to Hell in DL when I'm there!

Oh, and I'll be getting me one of them shirts on my next trip! SEMPER TOADUS

If it wasn't called "Wild Ride" it would have never gotten any of the legendary status that it has today. If it were just named "The Adventures of Mr. Toad" it would be the worst ride ever created. As kids, many of us took the billing it being "Wild" as something more extreme above all other dark rides, when truly it was the least themed of the lot. Plus, it was only half the size as Pooh is now with split tracks.

Well, that's not entirely true because part of the ride space was used for the gift shop. Also, the two tracks shared several major show scenes so the ride was longer than just "half" of Pooh. I'm not sure about the actual attraction lengths, but there was way more to see in Toad, and many more actual scenes.

quite an epiphany isn't it? :D

so much hype and at the end it's really not worth the effort!

I still think it's awesome. If the ride system and scenery had been upgraded it would be even better. Even in its roughest form, though, it's loads more fun than boring old Snow White in Orlando.

As for people ("kids") not knowing who or what Toad is, I'll point out that the film came out almost 30 years before I was born and it was never re-released in theaters in my lifetime. But I liked the ride. I was somehow able to figure it out, just like I was able to figure out who Figment and Dreamfinder were, who the Ghost Host was, and who the Redhead was (yowza).

Toad even has the advantage of "Wind in the Willows" being a classic of children's literature that is still widely read today.

What's funny about reading this thread is that I've heard from people on the ground in Florida that one of the ideas that was kicked around for the FLE 2.0 was a new Toad Hall...

I know what you mean ... I recently just rode it after years and was very underwhelmed ... however to be fair WDW had a much better version with the 2 different tracks.

Upgrade? I rode it about 3 weeks ago and WDW's version was still better by a long shot, even post refurb.

I can barely remember Toad but did it seriously take you to Hell?? I can't imagine that plot really flying today.

I think they did a wonderful job with Winnie the Pooh. I could ride it over and over and have!

I planned on proposing on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in Disneyland, but I didn't think my fiance would have appreciated us starting our engagement in Hell.

Must agree. The impression I got from Pooh after riding it for the first time (admittedly, I was pretty young) was that it was a lot better and more high-tech than Toad. Sorry Toad fans!

Toad was in my MK Top 10 and wanted it to stay. But I also wanted the Pooh ride, but felt they should have built a new show building for it (on some of the land they are using now that some internet fan apologists at the time claimed could not be used because it was too close to the fireworks!)

Having said that, I agree with you in that I ended up liking Pooh more! For me it's not about technology, however, but about story!

Pooh is gentler, cuter, more "Warm and Fuzzy', and has the uplifting payoff of a happy ending, unlike the Toad "hell" ending.

So Pooh is not only in my MK Top 10, but sits solidly at #4!

Still, since FL dark rides are among my fave rides in a MK/DL style park, I would certainly welcome Toad back in a NEW building as an additional dark ride in the unlikely event that would ever happen.

Fantasyland in the MK needs more dark rides as Disneyland has a lot more!

Current MK:

Snow White
Peter Pan
Pooh

Current DL:

Snow White
Peter Pan
Pinocchio
Toad
Alice
Pooh (in Critter Country)
Roger Rabbit (in Toontown)

So that's 7-3, which for my tastes is a pretty pathetic deficit!

The new Mystery attraction will most likely be on a higher scale than alice toad and pinocchio combined.

Maybe, but I'm not going to get my hopes up and risk being let down, until more is known! Besides, I'm more into story than technology. The Pinocchio, Alice, and Toad atractions are known, charming commodities whose story and characters I love, so I would JUMP at the chance to get those in their supposedly low-tech versions. Since I already know I LOVE them!

By contrast, if the "Mystery Attraction" was high-tech but about the villains, this would be a huge disapointment to me, because I do not like the villains.

Of course, it probably won't be about the villains, but I am just giving an example to illustrate that I care about story, charm, cuteness, and characters more then technology. If I'm into the story, characters, cuteness, and songs of an attraction, then I will LOVE it to death, regardless of if there are more technologically advanced attractions on property, and regardless of if other fans make fun of it (like Figment, Nemo, and Gran Fiesta are all faves of mine because they have the elements I like)

If the rumors of Snow White's Adventures closing are true, the only way the "mystery attraction" will redeem this decision, IMO, is if it is a new version of the Snow White ride we'd be losing, that tells the story of the movie as good as (or better than) the current version!

If Snow White stays, of course, then I'll be happy with whatever the "mystery attraction" is, but my preferences are (in order) Pinocchio, Alice, and Toad!

You know, I just got back from my trip to Disneyland, and honestly, Alice, Toad, and Pinnoc are such GREAT classic rides! I can't believe they'd axe those from the Magic Kingdom. So they're old ride systems. Big deal. They're classics, just like Peter Pan's Flight or Snow White.

Toad may be a ride full of cutouts, but it is a fun and wild attraction. I find myself laughing throughout the ride every time I ride it. The Hell part? That's just fun!

I agree! You summed up perfectly how I feel about these! I'm glad to see others here appreciate these rides! :)
