Adventureland Bathroom Refurb

According to a recent Orlando Sentinel article, it cost $750,000 to refurbish the bathrooms in Adventureland. Is that cost typical for a bathroom refurb? I doubt even the Skyway bathoom demolition/refurb cost as much as that. Are they doing any out-of-the-ordinary changes or fixes?

It would save costs if they went for a more authentic Jungle experience and had guest just do their business in bushes :lookaroun

Yea I noticed the refurb when I was there in Jan, does anyone know what they are doing? Any concept art or anything? That seems like a lot of moolah...

From what I understand they completely swapped the men's and women's restrooms so that the women's restrooms could be expanded. Each restroom is supposed to have completely brand new fixtures and stalls. The stalls are also wider to meet the latest stall size recommendations and requirements.

So the money went toward ripping everything out, expanding the old men's/new women's restroom size (new walls), then I would also assume, completely new counters, baby chance, sinks, toilets, urinals, dispensers, plus the automatic sensors and other aesthetics.

Seems about right to me.

Considering the size and scope of the bathrooms, as well as the automated technology put into them, I am not surprised at the cost. The bathrooms are huge, and given the amount of use they see on a daily basis, require much more than the input and construction needed for a general home bathroom. My wife watches the home and garden channel and they average a full bathroom refurb in a standard home at about 10 thousand dollars. So, put that on the scope of a standard WDW bathroom and I would say that sounds about right.:animwink:

I've seen the plans for it and the tilework is pretty awesome (for a bathroom). A lot more theming going into it than an average bathroom. Too bad they will still have wet counter tops and goopy soap dispensers when it opens (my biggest restroom pet peve).

I worked custodial for one of the parks for awhile. While u might be right about the soapy dispensers,,, the counters are always going to be wet unless they hire a cm to do nothing but stand in the restroom and wipe it every time someone washes their hands. It is impossible to keep dry. people wash their hands and shake them on the counter. i would dry the counters and literally 2 min later there would be water all over it, so pretty much instead of trying to keep them dry, we'd just dry them every 30-45min or so

I'm glad to see them putting money into not only rides but the park infrastructure as well. Any word on whether they'll be working their way around the park updating all bathrooms? My mom always complains that the ones near noodle station and Crystal Palace need to be redone

From what I hear, the next major restroom refurbishment will be the restroom to the left of Spaceship Earth at Epcot. The right side is brand new, but the left is waiting to be done now.

$10,000 for a bathroom I don't even spend that much on a car.

I agree. Its amazing how messy some people are in the bathroom. And the goopy soap dispensers are equally icky sometimes, though I do think they're better than the old powdered soap dispensers...anyone remember those? :lookaroun

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

I've built entire buildings for $750,000! Buildings with rooms, and bathrooms, and electricity and HVAC!

I can't even comprehend how they could spend $750,000 on just two bathrooms. Honestly. Toilets are toilets. Sinks are sinks. Stalls are stalls.

I think there are more projects lumped into that $750k than just the AL potties.
