Am I the only one who feels betrayed by Disney hooking up with a single carrier on this?
With all the other cell phone companies out there not all Disney people have Verizon phones.
And since this App is based on the Android platform why can't anyone with an Android phone have it?

The app isn't even available on all Verizon phones, so it's definitely a misstep.

Very true about the App not being available on all Verizon phones...Android and my Storm in particular.

E*trade Mobile Pro finally was released for the storm this week after many months of waiting though so maybe there's hope for this app too!

I know they've been working on adding the app to more phones.

Also, everyone has access to the generic info on the WDW mobile website (http://m.disneyworld.com). It's just that you get extra info through the Mobile Magic application on Verizon.

From a business standpoint I don't see anything wrong with having an exclusive agreement with one provider. And they chose Verizon because it has many times more subscribers in the U.S. than any other mobile company.

Verizon actually came to Disney. Verizon also paid for and developed all the software to run the Mobile Magic system.

Hopefuly the battle of the cell phone operating system will end some day with a somewhat standardized system. I'm no big fan of Microsoft or Windows but when there is one operating system standard there is a lot more software.
I read that developers are tired of every time a new phone comes out they have to rewrite thier program to accomodate another system.
Hopefuly the android system will go a long way to help this along.

I'm not disappointed or surprised. Disney let Verizon spend all the money, just like they do with ride sponsorships. They never would have done it themselves.

And with all that, the people at Touringplans developed a web app that is 8 times easier to use and quick to load, which is often just as accurate when I compare them.

m.touringplans.com, and the application is called Lines, if you haven't checked it out yet.

It is still not going to make a difference. You can have a single OS across all phones, buy you would still need to create an app for each model of phone.

Sure it would be easier, as your core programming would be easy to port, but different screen displays and input devices (keyboard, touch screen, number pad) require unique programming for each model phone.

It all boils down to a cost/benefit analysis. You look at the user base for that model phone (on your system), the percentage of said user base that would purchase the app, and the cost to develop the app. You then totem pole all your apps in development by ROI (and available programming skill sets)
