Is this a good camera?

Hi! I'm new to the world of dslr's and was wondering if this is a good camera for a beginner?

http://www.walmart.com/Eos-Rebel-Xsi-Digital-Kit/ip/9208352

I love to take action shots and the current camera I have blurs with any sort of movement. I am also looking into taking some photography classes and deffinately need a new camera before I take one.

If the above camera isn't good or if you know of a camera that is better, please let me know! I'm open to suggestions and would love any type of feedback. I don't have that big of a budget to work with, but I don't mind saving up for a few more months if it is deffinately better going with different camera!

Thanks so much!

Check DPreview.com as they should have an extensive review on it.

(... This is where i play the "trust me, i do this for a living" card.)

I would also recommend the Nat Geo Field Guide to Photography as a basic, intro photo book. A photojournalism prof i know uses that in his intro class. Highly recommend it for someone who wants to learn how everythign works and to get the pictures they want to get.

Thank you so much!

I'll be sure to check around at other websites before making my purchase! :D

I got mine at Walmart for pretty cheap, a couple years ago...which is where it looks like you originally found it.

If this is your first DSLR, you will be amazed at how much faster you can shoot action shots, and you won't have any trouble with blurriness if you use the right settings.

Oh and this is just my opinion, but I found photography classes to be a complete waste of time and money. I would be AMAZED if you learned anything in the class that you can't learn just from reading the instructions that come with your camera.

I like your avatar photo but I'd love to shoot that silhouette with the surfer against the sun with a 400 or a 600.

I was actually shooting the pier, but that dude stepped in the frame so I got him too.

Unfortunately, the longest lens I have is a 300 so you'll have to try it yourself. ;)

(Also, surfer dude isn't missing a piece of his board in the original. It drives me crazy in my avatar)

The surfer makes the photo, IMO.
