Getting Back to Resort after Boma

Hi everyone. We're planning on eating dinner at Boma which I've never been to but understand is a great place to eat. We're going to take the bus there after our day at AK. We'll probably be finished eating at around 8p and then need to get back to the Beach Club where we are staying. Without our own car, what is the best way to get there. We will need to get a bus over to DTD and then transfer? How long will this take? Should we just cab it? How much will this cost us? Thanks for any recommendations/suggestions.

If the Studios are still open when you're done with dinner, your fastest free option would be to take the bus from AKL to the Studios and then walk or boat to the Beach Club.

A more picturesque route that could combine Illuminations with your travel back to your hotel would be to bus to Epcot (closes at 9) and then walk through the park to the International Gateway, stopping to watch Illuminations along the way. Of course, this route would require you to have Park Hopping on your tickets. It would also be a bit more walking, but what better way to work off all the great food you'd just eaten at Boma? ;)

Not sure how much the taxi would be, but it's definitely your fastest option, and I don't think it would be more than $15-20.

First off, I love Boma and loved staying at the Beach Club, so I am sure you will enjoy both experiences.

Personally, if I had park hoppers I would take the bus from AKL to Epcot as suggested and walk. It is likely a bit farther than going to the Studios and walking, but walking through Epcot at night is much more interesting than walking the somewhat dark path between the Studios and the Beach Club.

One advantage of the Studios way is that you walk right by the Boardwalk, and a nice way to end an evening is walking the Boardwalk and catching some of the entertainment and atmosphere. Also, you don't have to enter the park to walk this way, so no park hoppers necessary. There is a boat that will take you from the studios to the Beach Club, but we found walking was generally faster unless a boat was loading as you walked by...

I wouldn't do the DTD and transfer unless your at the end of a long day and don't want to walk, as you are headed farther than necessary and relying on two bus schedules rather than one. I wouldn't be surprised if this could take an hour if you are unlucky with buses.

I've never cabbed it at Disney, so I can't help you there...

I'll add that a cab anywhere on property even with a very good tip won't cost more than $20.

So, your options:

If you're too tired to walk at all - taxi

If you have hoppers and want to watch IllumiNations - Bus to EPCOT and walk through, watching the fireworks on your way

If you don't mind a pleasant evening stroll through Boardwalk - Bus to DHS and walk or boat from there.

I stayed at The Boardwalk, thinking that I could get a direct bus to any resort and back. I didn't research enough :D

When we went to Boma, we took a cab over in order to make the reservation time. On the way back, we took a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then took the direct bus back to our resort from there. Taking it to Hollywood Studios and walking back is an option to. If we were in any kind of hurry during the week, we took a cab and it never cost us more than $15-$20, and that includes to Boma. Plus there's almost never a wait for cabs - there was always one sitting there.

Bus from Boma > MK > Boardwalk more than doubles the distance travelled. When travelling on property, your best bet is to go to either the park closest to you or to your destination. From Boma, if AK is open it's almost always your best choice to transfer when going to any other resort except the MK Monorail resorts. For the EPCOT resorts, a bus to EPCOT requires a walk through the park but from DHS there's the boats if you are tired or too stuffed to walk. DTD is a good choice to go to SSR or if the parks are closing/closed at night.

Every year we plan how to get back to our resort from another resort's restaurant and each year I am certain that taking a taxi is the best option. We don't really mind taking a bus or two to get to our dinner but, after a nice dinner (and a long day), would rather spring for a taxi and end the day on a less hectic note. Boma to anywhere is the perfect example.

Same situation this last trip and the cab was the way to go. I would do it again in a heart beat. Under $20, even with tip. I wish we'd done it in the past. When it's been a long day and you've had a nice meal, you just wanna go "home" and relax.
BTW the Valet's at AKL were great, organizing everything for us.

Thanks everyone for the excellent advice. DS closes at 8pm that night. If we can catch a bus without much wait, we'll do that and then take the boat to the BC(or to Boardwalk for the nightlife if we're not too tired). Otherwise, hopping in a cab might be our best option and probably worth the extra money.

I think this is your best bet. In May 2009 we stayed at the Boardwalk and, after our ADR at Boma, we came back via DTD. This took FOREVER. On our recent trip in November 2009, we instead went to the Studios after our Jiko reservation and walked to the Boardwalk from there (the boat lines were huge that evening). Much faster this way.
