Hollywood Hills Amphitheater-Secret?

Hi All,

Just returned from my wonderful trip. First time visiting Fantasmic with only two night per week. WOW! That is a lot of people. We waited for the 10:00PM show and watched all of the people come out of the 8:30 show. We were at the rope and asked a couple different CMs how many people can the Amphitheater hold. They all danced around the answer with "a lot" or "many" so on and so on. I even asked the Disney World Ambassidor that escorted us onto TOT after we were in the morning show (YAY we got to ride in Walt Disney's Car) and she danced around the answer as well. I guessed around 8,000 and when I returned home googled the answer as being 10,000. So why is it such a secret??? I guess I find it more interesting to hear this kind of trivia, why can't CM's answer? :zipit:

They dont really hand out numbers because it varies on how the theater is loaded. The standing areas at the back are sometimes not included, which can vary theh figure by a few thousand either way.

They also sometimes reserve parts of the Standing-Room sections at the back for private dessert parties.

Though it is kind of odd that they're hesitant to release a number, seeing as how I'm pretty sure the statistics for the amphitheater's seating and standing room were part of the original press releases when Fantasmic was being constructed...

I was under the impression that the seating area alone would hold roughly 6,000 people (using an average seating of 18" area for one person).

I distinctly remember this fact because it was the same number of seats that my college's (Purdue) main theater (Elliott Hall of Music - the largest proscenium theater in the country) holds. I was amazed that the Fantasmic seating capacity was even THAT high.

It would seem that another 2,000 might be realistic in the standing area, but another 4,000 seems high. Cramming 4,000 people into that area might cause some of them to be "married" in some states by the end of the show

Vanessa?

But the number of people the theatre holds will always change (depending on the size of people, lol). Since they aren't individual seats it's kind of hard to put a number on something like that. Plus you have all of the standing room areas in the rear of the theatre.

I wonder if there is a maximum, for fire safety code reasons.

I would guess, that because there are not "fixed" seats, and they don't count heads comming in, that they designed the methods of egress to handle more people than you could possibly jam in there.

Actually, they do count people as you enter. There's a very large bank of photocells you have to walk through as you reach the top of the hill and enter the plaza near the bathrooms.

Shows you how much attention I pay to F!

Not one of my favorite attractions/shows.

I guess getting the count that way is close enough for government work.
