Hi all,
Looking through this thread I see a lot of info on hourly work. What can anyone tell me about obtaining a professional position? My background is in adminstration, training, and HR and am interested in working for the mouse if I can maintain a decent living....so, does anyone have info on this end of the work at Disney?

Thanks!

I have been going through the Professional hiring route now for over a year, and due to the economy have not been able to get anything. I was lucky enough to network in, so I have had many opportunities to meet with managers and my recruiter told me it is just a matter of time now. But, I am also a slight exception. The thing to do is just regularly check the Disneycareers.com site and see when something opens up that you want to do. When that happens, apply and hope for the best.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea of salary ranges for different administrative levels? I am just trying to gauge if this is even feasible for me and my family at this time.

Thanks!

Depends on where the job ends up being located - not all Disney jobs are in the Orlando area, many are in Anaheim/Burbank etc.

It is hourly, and would probably not fall under the professional category (I looked at it on the career site as well). If you don't work full time hourly you won't be eligible for benefits and such. Salaries can range greatly depending on what you are going to be doing, so it is too ambiguous of a question to answer.

so, no guesses on the position I posted?

I know that this is a big question, but I am just trying to get a feel for what type of position I would need to acquire to make 55,000 - 60,000 at minimum.

I know the one that is posted is not at that level, but with a master's degree and many years of staff development experience I am just trying to ascertain if my salary range is achievable.

I doubt the job you posted would even bring you close to that area. There are some jobs posted on the site that would get that salary level, but none in the training or staff devo areas. I think you are going to have to wait to see what happens after the economy starts to turn around. I know that is what I have to do with Disney as well.

I don't think the position you posted will bring in nearly that much. I know engineers who make less than that a year at Disney, although they could easily make that elsewhere. It's especially hard to gage these things in this economy, unfortunately.

$15/ hour outside of Disney.

Starting
salary would be anywhere from $10-$12/hr depending on experience and education for the position posted. You are not going to find a job in Operations Learning and Development, which is what this position falls under, that will garner you $55,000/year. Even the managers in this department do not pull in this much. There are certainly jobs out there that do at Disney, but they will be higher then an Assistant level. However, it is a professional position in an office setting.

Look for jobs that list a lot of responsibilities and require more than a High School Education, with job titles of Manager, Specialist, etc. These will have higher paying salaries.

Good luck!

My friends have had the position you posted. It starts around $8/hour. For $55k-$60k you would have to be pretty high up in the company! Admins are hourly (about $10-$12/hour) unless you are an executive sec/admin then you become salaried (not much more money.)

Actually, you don't necessarily have to be very high up in the company to make that target salary. But you do have to be in a rather specialized role. It can take a lot of patience and hard work to get there, though. Very rarely would you be able to enter company and make that amount.

That would depend on the level of experience you are bringing to the table. If you are not a fresh out of college candidate, you absolutely can come into the company at a higher salary in a professional role. It really depends on the skillset and number of years in the workforce, same as it would at any company.

Of course, the hard part is getting the call from HR after submitting your resume. Especially when hundreds of candidates are applying for the same position.

It feels like 1 in 20. :ROFLOL:

Been searching since beginning of May and nothing. Unless you have 5 years plus experince its hard, even with a BA.
With the overabundance of talent out there, a BA is equivalent to a High School Diploma now. Get a masters.

Right now, I'm working on another masters, and am considering getting work as a professor to supplement my self-employed income.

I am going back to school, do teacher training from the beginning of October, plus I already have a postgrad qualification in hospitality management (from Rosen College which is the best school out there for hospitality.)

I politely disagree :)

http://www.gradschool.cornell.edu/fields.php?a=4&id=82

Rosen's good. Cornell's better.

Problem is you and a million other people have the same degree and are looking for a job.
A degree is better than no degree Joey.

which is way i doing teacher training as Florida is crying out for teachers, i'll be educating the CM's of tommorrow. :)
They can't pay them a decent wage, but you are right... they are desperate for teachers. If you have an advanced degree, why don't you try to become adjunct faculty at a college?
