Disney to install defibrillators at some rides.

With today's technology this should be a standard near anything that could potentially cause a heart attack. Kudos to Disney. Thanks for the link!

Seriously, this is a good thing to see. I noticed that Disney recently began listing the location of AEDs on the guidemaps. Guess this is taking it a further step for guest safety. :)

As a visitor from the UK I was surprised to see Defibrillators in Orlando International Airport, since then they have begun appearing at other airports as well. A year ago one of the stage crew from my theatre group suffered a fatal heart attack during construction, because of this I am all for the placement of these devices in accessible locations particularly considering the rising levels of Obesity (both in the US and UK) which could mean these devices will see a lot more usage in the future.

This is excellent news. The additional benefit of the newer AED's is that they really walk the user through the process. Ideally of course, whomever is using the AED's should be trained, but because that is not always the case many of the newer devices actually 'talk' and explain how to use the machine.
Does Disney require CM's to have CPR and AED training?

Good news. If these can be installed in such places now then it is quite clear to tray and add them were appropriate.
I hope this helps save some lives and I hope that we can hear about how a CM has SAVED someone after coming off (insert WDW attraction) instead of the guest sadly passing. That said, I would PREFER that these are never needed and every guest comes off tip top, but that is perhaps impossible as there are a number of health problems that go undetected until its too late.
So fingers crossed that this will ease up on the number of problems this day and age.

The NHS has been working with shopping centres to intall these in them. The only bad thing is here in Manchester they keep getting stolen!

Sounds like a good idea.. Hopefully the CMs will be properly trained to use if necessary... I had to learn how to use one while coaching little league baseball... Thankfully I never had to use it...

FYI, these are already everywhere at Disneyland. I've noticed them in the loading areas of major attractions, and they've been putting them in the walls where pay telephones used to be (remember those?). There are dozens of them all over the place at Disneyland now.

For the most part they do a nice job of themeing the cabinets in to the area they were installed. However the sign that alerts you to their presence is understandably un-themed.

I found it odd that they would put one on Studio Backlot Tour. Did you ever hear of someone having a heart attack from sheer boredom?

How about Journey Into Imagination With Figment, sheer disappointment?

 Well that explains why they are installing one on Everest!

This is good news. I just hope they have enough trained technicians on staff.
They don't need "trained technicians", I'm pretty sure everybody who opens the case can use it. In Canada, anyone taking a CPR course is trained in how to use AEDs, but a novice can read the instructions and follow them.

It's preferable that someone with CPR training use the AED, as in some instances the heart doesn't need defibrillation, but the person still needs CPR. But in the absence of a CPR-trained person, any using an AED is better than no-one doing anything.

KUDOS to Disney:sohappy:
I am a RN that works on a cardiac floor....time is muscle!
Safety first. You never know who/when it may be needed.
May save one of us or one of our loved ones:)
