Otis's name appears on the express elevator (the "chicken exit" elevator) and high-rise elevator in the building, though.

And you will be happy to know that Otis technicians are the ones who re-rope the drop elevators every six months.

You sound like a knowledgable person who knows the ride...a CM pehaps?:drevil:

Also, the 5th dimension scene is actually an elevator shaft, and supposed to appear that you are on your back, facing upwards, being pulled up the shaft.
Whoa, whoa....you're blowing my mind, dude! Is this something you heard officially? I always wondered why there were so many exposed girders in this scene, but if what you are saying is correct, that would make sense.

You`re new here arn`t you? Seek out 180top and ladder threads to see how obsessive it gets around these parts :D

I am new yes and have already noticed this. I just don't get it!! I love WDW to pieces and if I thought there was something wrong with a ride/show like it not being fun enough, I wouldn't go on it/see it. Not spend my time moaning about it!! You are on HOLIDAY/VACATION at WDW so enjoy it!!!

Yup, this is officially what the 5th Dimension effect is supposed to accomplish. It's never been quite as convincing as planned, though. If you look to one side towards the end of the room, you'll see a set of elevator doors rotated 90 degrees on their side as part of the effect.

Oh, now this is nothing. You should see the hoopla that happened when Spaceship Earth re-opened last November. Now that was ugly. Thankfully, the main instigator of that is, shall we say, no longer among us. While I agree that this thread waaay over-analyzes the Tower of Terror, I still don't see anyone worried about it affecting their riding experience (it sure doesn't affect mine).

Well that's what I love about this message board, there's always something new to learn! I have to say, I don't think I would have ever picked up on this on my own. It doesn't help that the two shafts merge into one; if the car went straight the whole way, it might make it more obvious what the scene was supposed to represent.

Yep, I was going to mention the sideways elevator doors. There are also various "warning" signs hanging sideways, and the "maitenance shaft lights" themselves are on their side.

Basically the show for the 5th dimension goes like this: it looks like an elevator shaft when the doors open and you first move forward. The reflection of the maitenence lights on the starfield doors makes the passage look longer than it really is. Then, after a few seconds, the elevator shaft fades away (the sideways maitenance lights go out) and the Twilight-Zone-y stuff behind them appears, along with the starfield in front of you.

The elevator shaft has now morphed into the 5th dimension. Once you pass through the starfield "portal", you have entered the Twilight Zone, or whatever you want to consider it.
