Help with BWI (Baltimore) Airport

Hello everyone,
Well it seem that we are now a victim of the great airline shuffle. Airtran has made changes to our departing flight out of Rochester, NY. Originally we were to stop only in BWI Baltimore stay on the plane then depart again directly to MCO. Now, have a 35 min layover and depart on a different flight. My question is; Is anyone familiar with BWI? Is a 35 min layover a realistic time period for this airport? Or is it a good chance we may miss our flight to MCO? We had to do this in Atlanta once and it didn't work out so well because we had to get to the other side of the Airport, run, run, run, train, run, run, run........"Sorry, your plane had already left".

I was at BWI recently so I can kinda help. I guess it depends....who is your arriving flight on and who is your departing flight on? Are they the same terminals? I would start by looking that up. BWI isnt that big, but if you have to make your way across the airport or switch terminals, I think your gonna have a tough time. 35 mins to change flights just isnt reasonable to me. No matter what airport you are at. Also, what day are you traveling on and what time? Business travel days are very busy in the DC area so you have to watch out for that.

I live in the Washington DC area and use BWI alot. BWI isn't a huge airport. I think Air Tran is Concourse D. So if your connecting flight is also Concourse D (or even Concourse C) you're in great shape. Your longest walk would be to Concourse A/B which is Southwest or Concourse E which I think is mostly international flights. Regardless, I do think you can do it in 35 minutes...even though that's a ridiculous amount of time to give for a layover!

Hope this helps! Have fun on your trip! :)

I booked a flight from Rochester to BWI & it had the 35 minute layover. When I called AirTran & asked about this they said there would be enough time. It's on a Tuesday morning @ 8:15-8:35. I'm a bit worried about making the connection flight, but I've done it before in must larger airports in a shorter amount of time.

I have never had to switch to a different concourse at BWI, but you do have to go through security again I think? If thats the case, 35 mins is exceptionally questionable.

Thanks for all your advice. Both our flights are with AirTran. Originally it was supposed to be just on the ground for 35 mins, now its get off the plane and switch to a different flight. Sound as though it won't be as bad as our nightmare in Atlanta. I'm fairly confident that we can make it but after Atlanta, the wife is a little anxious about this layover.

Another tip might be to look up your flight numbers and see where those flights are arriving and departing from today (this info is usually available from the airline, airport or on flightview.com). Typically the same flights will go in and out of the same gates unless there are delay issues at the airport. Check it over a few days' time. That'll give you an idea of how far you'll have to go when you get to BWI. Then do it again in the days before your flight, in case they've changed their scheduling and gate allocations.

For example, I just looked up my Jetblue flight that I'll be taking next month. It's scheduled to depart from and arrive at the same gates tomorrow as it actually did today.
