Trip Report, May 9-18th, 2008

I'm going to start this, and edit it as I remember things later :)

Friday May 9th, got to the Resort earlier than normal since Hubby got out of work early that day and I picked up oldest from school early. We actually checked in about 6 pm. I had requested Alligator Bayou, second floor, and we got Magnolia Bend first floor. I asked if they could switch, and they did, no problem. In the check in lobby, the boys were waiting for me on the couch in the middle of the room, and when I was done checking in, the little one (4) wanted me to experience the softness of the couch... I plopped down and promply whacked my head on the backboard so hard from sinking down so far, that I saw stars and people in the other room turned to see what the noise was. How embarrassing. I was laughing hysterically, while my hubby was mortified.
On to the room... we are slight germaphobes, so I spent the first 20 minutes cleaning everything, and then we made our way to the Hotel restaurant for some excellent food at our 8:30 res.
Our room was facing west, which was perfect since we are NOT morning people and usually arrive at the parks between 12 and 1, to stay until closing. It's so nice to be past the nap thing!

Saturday, May 10th. Magic Kingdom. Got there early for us, about 11:00 after we had to deal with Guest Services screwing up our passes. They printed our sons cards as the adults, and hubby's and mine as the kids. Mmanaged to do everything in the park, without fast passes, except Tom Sawyer Island, Country Bears, Barnstormer, Peter Pan and Dumbo. Ate at the Crystal Palace, caught Wishes and Spectromagic. Was the little ones first time on Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain, we of course had to go on them 3 times each that day. Myself and the older son his Space Mountain once. Left the park at Midnite, got to the hotel around 12:45 am.

Sunday, May 11th. Mother's Day. Epcot and dinner at the Coral Reef. Got there around 12:30. Was the first time we had been on spaceship earth since the rehab. Alot of things are cooler, however both my hubby and I miss the more imposing mans voice when you hit the "ON THIS, YOUR RIDE ON SPACESHIP EARTH" for some reason, the voice of the GPS lady just isn't as impacting. Was the youngest's first time on Soarin, of course we had to fastpass that one, then we got in standby for Test Track. He LOVED it. Both of them actually. Also did Ellen, Nemo, Imagination, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, and the Pavillion that used to be the Body one, which was a Garden thing. Hit a bonus Character greet with Daisy, as no one bothered to look in there. Left Epcot around 7 to hit Magic Hours at Magic Kingdom. Did all three mountains (after two glasses of Reisling at the Reef, not recommended) and then did Thunder and Splash again. Left the park at 12, got to the room around 12:45... didn't take the tram, the boys ran all the way to the van, lol.

Monday, May 13th - MGM... Got there around 1:30 (yes, we're getting later everyday, lol) walked in the gates, and the little one said Tower of Terror FIRST! so off we went. They measured him three times on the way to the load. By the end of our trip, he automatically went and stood under every measure thing we passed in every queue... it was funny. He is 41 inches with shoes on. Anyway, they dropped us 6 times and we got a fabulous picture, as they put the four of us in the front row. We got off and he said, and I quote "Never, ever, ever, again." but we got the picture. Older one and I went to Rockin Roller Coaster Stand-by and walked right on. At this point we had actually forgotten about the Toy Story Mania Preview... (doh). Went from RRC to Playhouse Disney, which got evac'd at the Einsteins part due to someone leaning on the wrong door and setting off the fire alarm. No amount of apologies was going to make it up to the one family we saw cursing out the cm on the way out. Oh well, we didn't like the new show anyway. Then I remembered TSM, so off we went. It was running and we loved it, and I took a bunch of photos of the queue. I LOVE the fact that when the ride stops, you get to practice... finally, something interactive while you wait, HURRAY!
Off TSM and on to Star Tours... Little ones first time on that, and we are HUGE star wars fans, so we did it twice in a row. On to MuppetVision, and then the Jedi Show which we hadn't seen yet. Got both boys in their star wars shirts in the front row to wait (got there early) and at the last moment, some lady comes with her 3 boys, and sits them in front of mine, infront of the line. Hubby was back a ways, so I said to her, Ma'am, you can't be in front of the line, and you're cutting in front of people who've been here a long time. To which she said, I've been here too, I've been over there. I said to her, that's not cool to cut in like that, and she stated she didn't care, and kind of shouldered me out of the way. At that point, I was done. I ignored her, but it was a sore spot for the rest of the day. I felt that I was assertive without being an a$$hole, but perhaps I could have done more? Anyway, we hit the Great Movie ride and then dinner at Mama Melrose. On to Indiana Jones, which we got to see all the way through to the very end (only the second time in all the visit's we've made, thanks to FL lightening). Back to star tours and then Fantasmic. After fantasmic (the 10:30 one), we did the Muppets again, and star tours, had a snack, did some shopping and closed down the park at 1. Danced all the way down Hollywood Blvd to Kiss the Girl and heard some guy fart really loud by a store on the way out. When we started laughing and looked over to see who it was, his wife said, "Great, they heard that" so of course we laughed louder. We got back to the room at 2.

Tues. Epcot - got there around noon. Again we hit Soarin, Test Track, Imagination, Honey I Shrunk the Aud... Cancelled dinner at TUTU for 5pm and made a res for Rose and Crown at 7:30. Let the boys play on the playground by the butterfly garden. Hit test track again. Went to Dinner, got done around 8:40, so I went to try for Illuminations seats while hubby and the boys paid the bill. Found a good spot, sat for 10 minutes and hubby and the younger one came to find me and say that our server had said we could stay for the fireworks as they weren't seating anymore and we had been on the patio. Older son stayed at the table... so we ran back. FANTASTIC view of the fireworks. Left the Park at 10, got back to the room at 11 (we like to play on the fiber optic tiles to the left by innoventions as we leave the park)

Wed. AK - got to the park around 1. Nemo was closed for the day. We don't do shows, so we didn't care, but people were disgruntled. Went immediately to Dinoland. Got a fastpass for Dinosaur and went to the dig. Played on the playground for awhile. I thought it would be a good idea to pick up my feet on the blue slide to go faster, not realizing the drop at the end was high, and had a "launching bump" right before the edge. Went flying into the air, landed flat on my butt. Sent myself and some miscellaneous woman standing there into gales of laughter... unfortunately my hubby missed it entirely. I had a bruise for 3 days because of it though. Went on dinosaur so my youngest could be "Scared out of his pants" was AWESOME. Did that one twice that day. We also did the Bug Movie, Kilimanjaro Safari and dinner at the Rainforest. EE is the only ride at Disney I can't do, and no one else wanted to either so we skipped it. After dinner, went back into the park and did Dinosaur again then back to the dig. We got a bonus at the dig in that they called for all the kids to help them bury the bones for the next day, and all the kids that helped got a little dinosaur. Very cool and unexpected. Left the park at 9, and had the funniest Tram commentator. Got to the room at 10, went to the shop and picked up everything we had sent to the hotel so far (2 pics and a cheshire cat mug), got shakes and went swimming.

Thursday, Spent the day at the Magic kingdom, ate at Pecos Bill Cafe and cancelled our Tonys reservations. Did all the mountains numerous times, along with Barnstormer and Country Bears. Were at the park from 12 to closing, hit the fireworks and the later parade. Also did the Haunted Mansion many times, thank goodness, because there was no doing it on Saturday!

Friday - made a last minute decision to do MPPP. Got tix at the hotel and then off to Epcot - got there at 1, ran and got fastpasses for Soarin' from 5:15-6:15. AHHH! Dinner was at 5, and we had to leave for MK pirate party at 6:30, that was going to be close... oh well, lol... on to Test Track Standby for 40 minutes... spaceship earth, then we walked all the countries since we had been to Epcot 3 times now and had not once hit world showcase! Got to Mexico at 4:58 for our 5 pm res and were done and out of there by 5:55. Ran to Soarin and stood outside for a few minutes deciding we didn't have time to go on. Changed our minds, and went to the fastpass line. Got stuck there for 25 minutes! Did Soarin, ran to the van and off to MK. Got into the Pirate Party at 7:15 (Yes, that's some sort of record, lol) bought pirate hats for the boys and a pirate shirt for me (we weren't prepared since we bought the tix on the way to the park that day) Went immediately to the Captain Jack picture and stood in line for 45 minutes for 4 of the best pictures we've ever gotten. We had enough time in the 5 hours of the party to go on every ride in the park that was open and find all 12 treasure stations, sit in front of the castle for the fireworks (I got excellent photos, YAY! Firework photos are my thing) AND get a great view of the parade in frontier land. Most Definately without a doubt the best 200 bucks ever spent. We even played some of the pirate games, and I danced to the hand jive to the amusement of some of the other guests. Went in Monsters for the first time this trip, and hubby and the boys were on the big screen (He was "sitting between 2 monsters"). So was the guy next to us (he was buying everyone Churros) the guy behind us (he had the urge to dance) and the little girl on the other side of us (was Boo in the story) We got back to the room at 1:45, and the boys played with their treasures for 30 minutes.

Saturday - The most crowded and hottest day at the park. I think it hit 91. Lines for everything. We got there about 2pm. Spent most of the day on Tom Sawyer Island. Had Dinner at Liberty Tree and remembered why we don't like that restaurant. Skipped the parade and did our fastpass for Peter Pan, went on Aladdin, Splash and Thunder Mountains. Was very crowded, did I mention that? We thought the park closed at 11, but it was open til midnite. In that last hour we did the race cars, buzz twice, the people mover, the teacups, and pirates, and bought funnel cakes and sat and ate them while watching everyone else leave. A great end to our trip.

Sunday - Rush! We got a late checkout of 12:30 but with out schedule we were feeling the pinch to get out in time. Spent 3 hours at our pool, rode the boat to the French Quarter pool, didn't like it, and went back to ours. Ate dinner at the counter service place and hit the road at 6. Got home round'about 9 and been doing laundry ever since!

We love Riverside, it was new to us this time, and we can't wait to go back in Sept. Esp with the free dining (which will save us about 1300.00... ouch)
We had so much fun at the Pirate Party, we are thinking of doing the Halloween thing, but we're not sure. We shall see :)

I love these trip reports. It fills a gap until I can get there, albeit vicariously. I am thrilled you had a great trip. I hope your trip in Sept. is equally good.

a side note...

I'm just re-reading, and thinking some of you guys might think we're crazy with the cleaning thing, so I wanted to clarify a little...

We went on a trip the week after Thanksgiving when my youngest was 6 months old. We stayed at the All Star Movies on the bottom floor. On day three of the trip, after a day at MGM, both myself and our oldest (who was four) woke up at about 1 am vomiting and "other stuff". We both threw up (and more) for almost 4 days. The 6 month old, who was exclusively being breastfed, miraculously didn't catch it, but I thought I was going to die. On the day that the two of us started to feel better, hubby started puking (and more). That day, after not eating or drinking, and being cooped up in the room for 4 days, I took the kids to MK, not knowing they were filming the annual holiday parade that day. We made it about 2 hours and went back to the room. We actually had to extend our trip a day, as no one could drive home and have not stayed in an All Star resort or eaten at the Sci-fi since. (just baaaaad associations). We are also the people in line whose kids have their hands in their pockets (instead of on the railings) and carry germ-x with them and use it frequently.
So that's why we're probably a little more obsessed than most. We also don't allow housekeeping in our room while we're there. We can make our own beds (or not, lol) and we use our own towels :)

How could I forget...

The little one got into Capn Jacks Pirate Tutorial. The older was was slightly disappointed, since last time we were there they both got picked, however, we pointed out that it seemed Jack picked only younger ones this time.

Nice report - sounds like you had a great time.

Got to agree with you about dinner at Liberty Tree and have to disagree with you about the pool at POFQ !!

Its a good job that everybody doesn't like / dislike the same things

what a fun trip! thanks for sharing.
How were the lines that first day you did without fastpasses?

They weren't bad at all. The most we waited up until the crazy Saturday was 30 minutes.
We got into the habit of only using fastpass for the truly impossible waits, ie: Soarin' and Splash Mountain. We're the crazy people who zigzag across the park 100 times to do things in the order we want, and it almost NEVER includes rides that are next to each other.
Coincidentally, while I only lost 2 pounds during the week we were there, I lost 2% of my total bodyfat from running around, lol...

I would fit in very well with your family, from the zig-zagging (which my wife can't stand) to the getting up late and staying until the park closes (we're on vacation, which means we're sleeping in!).

Oh, and good report :D

Okay,
We did it, got the MNSSHP tix for our next trip over the weekend. We've been putting together our costumes ever since. (Our family always does some sort of theme).
Here's hoping no hurricanes come and mess up our plans...
