Will extra monorail car be needed for future DVC resort?

I'm assuming the new DVC resort they're putting up next to the Contemporary will soon have guests walking over to catch the monorail at Contemporary Station. Won't they need to add another car for all the extra people?

The monorail already has very high capacity. Adding another car to the trains would require huge work to be done not only on the trains, but to every station along the route. Running more trains would probally be the best option, as they can do this with little change to the system, using trains we already have.

The other question is, just how many *additional* beds are they adding? The North Wing that they tore down had 250 rooms. Obviosuly the new tower is taller, but DVC units are also bigger. As they haven't announced anything about the new tower, we have no way of knowing any numbers on how many units there are. But I think the overall impact will be negligible, except perhaps at peak park opening and closing times.

According to this article, there will be a total of 281 units in the new tower.

Now we need to know how many people will be able to stay in those 281 rooms versus how many people could stay in the 250 rooms. Anyone have the "average" number occupancy of a DVC room? (My guess would be around 3.5...but that's just a wildly uninformed guess)

Ok this is a overall tip for almost anyone staying in the Contemp over all. JUST WALK! It takes longer to wait for the Monorail, get on it, wait for it to move, pull into the station, and then walk down the platform then it would to take the nice little walking path from the A-frame to the entrance of the Magic Kingdom. I have often just walked from the MK to the Contemp to jump on a bus to DTD then to try and fight the crowds at the bus stops to try and get to my resort then over to DTD.

So true! When my family stayed at the Contemporary in 2000 and 2003, we just walked to MK in the morning. It was nice, though, with tired feet at the end of the day, to get on the monorail and be the first stop to get off :).

It is not possible to just 'add another car' to a monorail. The platforms would have to be extended.

They have looked at bringing back some of the trains they sent to Vegas, though, to increase capacity that way.
