I am trying to find out if a piece of networking hardware exists and if so what is it called. Here is my situation. I have an xbox 360 a HD-DVD player a Direct TV box and in the near future a Wii that all need to be hooked to the internet. I have wifi in the house and I was wondering if there is some sort of wifi receiver that I can use and then connect my hardware to it via cables. Otherwise I need to run a hard line cable and a router and I am not really looking forward to climbing in my attic as I have vaulted ceilings and it is quite a tight fit.

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but I'd venture to say it's different for each piece of hardware. Unless you want to plug them all into one device. You might be able to do that with another wireless router, if it can get a connection wirelessly from your main router. I know Apple's Airport Express hardware has said capabilities.

Wii has wifi built in. You can buy a wifi adapter for XBOX for $90. I'm not really knowledgeable on HD-DVD players.

All three devices are together and can connect to the internet via an ethernet cable. (I can get a wifi adaptor for the xbox but if possible I would like to avoid it) I have wifi in the house (router is in the master bed room equipment is in the living room) I need a device that will connect wirelessly to my wifi router that has ethernet ports on it so I can connect the three devices to the internet with an ethernet cable.

The connection path would be like this.

Wireless router----air-----mystery device-----cat 5 ethernet cable-----xbox,dvd, satellite receiver.

you need a Wireless Bridge. Here's one I have that connects my DishTV Box, ReplayTV box, and PS2 to my wireless network.

My setup is like this:

Entertainment Hardware <-cat5-> Hub <-cat5-> Trendnet AP <-WiFi-> Linksys Router <-cat5-> DSL Modem/Internet

This is sound advice. I wouldn't get an xbox adapter either. It's outrageously over priced considering its functionality.

That looks like it will work. Just one question I have a secured wifi that requires a password. Will this device still be able to connect?

That bridge only has one ethernet port. You would need a hub as well or try to find a similar one with more ports. Yes, it is WEP/WPA secure connect enabled [I'm not sure how it's configured though having not used one myself].

Fortunately I have a hub left over from when I had my daughters rooms hard wired.

Yup. I use WPA on my network and it connects right up. It also support WEP.

edit: removed hub info since you got one already.
