Keys to the Kingdom Tour...... worth it?!?

Hi Everyone!
I am thinking of getting tickets to a behind the scenes tour for my family of five (all adults, my parents, sister, husband, and I) for Christmas. I'm trying to keep in cheap, and I see that the Keys to the Kingdom Tour is pretty reasonable priced. Has anyone does this tour? Did you like it? Is it worth the money? Mind you, all of us (with the exception of my hubby) have been to Disney around 20 times in our life. Will it be too boring for us since we are so "well versed" in Disney?

Let me know too if you've been on any other tour besides this one, I'm intrigued to hear about all of them from personal experience.

Thanks everyone!!!

My wife and I just took it in September and boy it was great! While we did know many of the things our tour guide mentioned, we sure didn't know them all. And of course being able to go backstage a bit and even in the utilidors was a special treat.

I believe alot depends upon who you get for the tour guide. Ours was named Matthew and he was informative and fun. I can't speak about any of the others.

The price is pretty reasonable for something that lasts almost 5 hours. Lunch at Columbia Harbor House is included (you'll be asked to choose from a limited menu at the start of your tour, then when you arrive there around 11:00 your lunch will be ready for you).

As for you already knowing alot about Disney, that is actually a good thing in this case. I would not recommend this tour for a newcomer but for a seasoned Disney fan I highly recommend this tour, it was one of our best Disney experiences ever.

I'm the minority when it comes to this tour! I didn't see a huge value to the Keys To The Kingdom tour. I didn't find the utilidoors that impressive as you only were down there for a very short time and saw nothing! The tour that I feel was a great value was the Mickey's magical Milestones. I feel as if I got the same information at a greater value. The price difference was huge, only $25 per person. I would recommend looking into it more!

Like I said I'm the minority, you will see soon enough!

Edit: Woot, my 550 post! Okay, that was it!

My wife and i took this tour last year. we've been to the world 3 times and we found it to be informational, however the tour really just gives you a behind the scenes look at the MK and not really all of it. Our guide (Matthew) was really informative and kept us interested during the tour, we visited Behind Splash and the HM as well as POTC but did nothing in Fantasy land or tomorrow land. Lunch was okay, it is included in the price.

all in all i wouldn't take the tour again, but for someone who is not as versed as you in the world might be a good idea, but for you it may be boring and uneventful. but thats just my 2 cents.

I've been on it twice. Once before and once after 9/11. Totally different. Every tour is different depending on your guide. Wife and I really enjoyed it both times. I would strongly recommend it. It's really worth it. Probably will do it again in the next couple of years.

What were the differences Pre and Post 9/11

I agree that your guide makes the experience special or not.

We took the tour and our female guide was very irritating. She made the group feel awkward by her constant line of "so you can ride rides". She would tell the group something and finish with "so you can ride rides. Almost as though we should feel guilty. She took great pride at her knowledge of the park, but was overall condescending.

I was also surprised the tour does not cover Fantasy Land or Tomorrow Land.

I have heard nothing but good things about this tour. I have several friends who have taken it and loved it. I want to do the tour, but I just need an extra day on my trip to do so.

Before 9/11 you got to go under the Castle and see more of the stuff in that area. This included some of the wardrobe and other stuff there. After 9/11 you see if from a distance. They had set up and area with some wardrobe stuff in another area so you could see the costumes up close but not in the mass like pre 9/11.

I went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour in March and wasn't that happy with it. I had an older tour guide who only did the tours once a week and didn't have much knowledge. I've seen all the disney specials on the travel channel and knew more from watching that then with my tour guide. It seems like I just had a bad tour guide. Everyone in my group was complaining about him. I always see fun and interactive tour guides so I'm sure it's fine. I would go for it you'll probably have a different guide.

Costuming has also relocated semi-recently. It's no longer in the tunnels and would require a bus ride out to the Cast parking lot to see it. But, yes, from what I've heard the utilidoor portion of the tour has been dramatically decreased. I took the tour post-9/11, and really enjoyed it.
