HM missing narration replaced?

Anyone know if the Ghost Host's "lost tracks" of audio will be restored in the renovated Haunted Mansion?

For the longest time, the DL and WDW versions had the identical narration from the Endless Hallway to the end of the ride.

However, during a rehab of the DL Mansion in the mid 90's (the same one where the ghostly organist was installed in the attic) Disney restored two missing audio tracks that occur when you pass the Conservatory, and then during the Corridor of Doors.

"All our ghosts have been dying to meet you! This one can hardly contain himself!"

"Unfortunately, they all seem to have trouble getting through. Perhaps Madame Leota can establish contact. She has a remarkable head for materializing the disembodied."

To my knowledge, WDW never had these audio tracks (and until they did at DL, Madame Leota was never identified by name)

Anyone know more about the history of these tracks? Were they in the DL Mansion on opening day and taken away later? Or are they truly "lost tracks"?

Also, I was listening to a recent recording of DL's ride and it sounded like those tracks were missing again. Have they removed them? (it might have also just been a bad Doombuggy speaker)

No, they were never part of the WDW GH dialogue and, from what I've read, were excised from the DL version of the HM by the Imagineers before its opening in 1969. Apparently when the DL HM went down for a refurb in the mid-90's (when the attic's pianist and "I do..."s were implemented for the pop-ups), someone with access to the audio managed to get those lines reinstated, although apparently without permission from ''higher-ups". Later these same "higher ups" had them removed once again...

Really? I feel like I have heard both of those lines a lot (I love how the GH says "the disembodied" with a creepy echo). I suppose it's possible that I've only heard them at Disneyland, but that's a pretty vivid memory for only two trips (March 2003 and August 2005). Weird.

Ditto, but replace "Disneyland" with "Walt Disney World" and "only two trips" with "dozens".

Oh, and by the way, I'm new.

Good, I'm not going nuts--I was pretty confident that for me to remember the exact intonations of those sections of dialogue, I had more than likely heard it on my hundreds of rides on the HM at WDW instead of the maybe 10 times I've ridden it at Disneyland...

I've only been to WDW and I've heard them many times too. But I do have a Haunted Mansion cd, so maybe I heard it on there? Pretty sure it was WDW though.

I don't mean this to turn into a major debate, but I've been visiting WDW's HM since 1973 and have made both audio and video recordings of it since way back when. There simply has not been those particular lines of GH dialogue ever for the WDW version of HM. Mind you, the cd of HM they sell at MK includes those lines - it's simply a duplicate of the one sold at DL as well. I think people's memories are playing tricks on them...

From what I understand those lines were reinstated into both attractions in the late 90s and then recently (like in the past 2 years) been removed from the attractions by Tom Fitzgerald.

I believe someone at Micechat actually has a copy of the internal memo that states such.

I have to agree with you, though I can't speak for the 80's and 90's as I was to young to recall, but over the last 8 years I don't recall ever hearing those lines.

If they were never a part of the attraction at Walt Disney World, then how on earth did I know Madame Leota's name as a child?

I swear that at some point they were in there...

I seem to recall the conservatory line as well, because I always thought it was funny when I was younger...

*shrug*

yeah, I agree...I knew this stuff as a little kid...I didn't get my first pc until I was 15, and I knew she was Madame Leota long before that (and had not been to Disneyland yet). Something doesn't add up, here.

Audio Zones

While I have never heard of the lines being in the WDW mansion, the doombuggy audio path parts used to have I believe 12 areas and now only 10... So, I have no idea really. None of the documents I have read mention which speils are played at those locations, mostly just called "Ghost Host Narration".

I have heard the "head for the disembodied" line once or twice in the many times I've ridden HM. I've never heard the "can hardly contain himself" line before.

seems pretty clear to me that these lines have been in the ride from time to time, though admittedly not always (I can certainly recall many times I have ridden and not heard them, which I just attributed to the crappy audio hahaha). Maybe they will reinstate this audio w/ the current refurbishment? I like them--they are witty and the way he says "disembodied" is downright creepy.
