GTO's on the Backlot tour?

I couldn't make it out when I was on the backlot tour, so I thought somebody would know. Why does disney have 8 or 9 Pontiac GTO's lined up in the back along the backlot tour? What do they use them for, I know its not for the motor stunt show, as they use the opels and such. Thanks!

On the tour about a year and one half ago, we were told that they were used as "practice vehicles" for LMA. (This was before the show opened). I don't know if this is true, since they obviously have little to no similarity to the real Opels that they use in the show. Could be just a GM marketing ploy, since the car isn't selling so well. If they're not using them, I would be happy to take one off their hands! Maybe they'll show up on Mouse Surplus.

They could just be there because there was no where else to put them. Disney uses cars like that at various times through out the year. Super Soap Weekend, Star Wars Weekends, etc. for the motorcades that drive through the park. Whenever there is a golf tournament at or near Disney you will also see the courtsey cars that the players and officials drive while they are here, just lined up in odd places.

They can't be for LMA. The Pontiacs' are way too big to practice for the little cars that they actually use in the show.

eeeeeeeer wrong. they are infact the practice vehicles for the show. don't be decived by appearances. the only gto in the gto's you see are the outer shell the insides have been customized to their liking. Occationaly they will break them out and practice with them. but not so much any more.

They were around for the HCoE press release and were used for various events. I was part of the press event and got to be up close to the GTOs and there is nothing different about those GTOs as opposed to the 2004 GTO you see in the streets.

Completely late bump, but I asked one of the stunt drivers and he told me that they're "there for us to throw them around when we need to." Aside from uprated brakes, tires, and suspension, they're pretty much stock.

When LMA was being built and practice runs were being ran, I never saw the GTO's being used as "practice vehicles" while working the Backlot Tour. Our spiel claimed that they were practice vehicles, but I presume that was just a GM marketing ploy.

Nowadays, the vehicles are just used as courtesy vehicles when needed. There are still a few that you can see while riding the BLT, however most of them are now kept in the cast member parking garage (and are quite dusty and in need of a wash, I might add).

I believe that they were being used for practice in the parking lot at EPCOT while they were still building the stage. Once they moved into the theater I don't think they used them too much any more.

I've seen them doing tricks in the back of the Epcot guest lot before the "Opels" were received.

Just FYI here, but apparently Opel has just stopped sponsorship at the Paris show, and Ford is a likely candidate since they just picked up Autopia. Now, I'm not saying that this is going to affect our show since we have a different sponsor but it's a possibility.

Actually, its the same sponsor, Opel is completely owned by GM.

I would love to see that featuring the kickass Euro Focus (nee Mazda3/Volvo S40,V50) and the upcoming Mondeo (nee nothing)

I would love to see them use VW's as they are the love and my life and have been going full throttle with marketing in the USA. and to the guy who said he beat the GTO by 10 seconds, I hope that wasnt a 1/4 mile race because it is pretty much impossible to beat any car by 10 seconds. Also there is no replacement for displacement. And boost is not the answer because you can boost a big motor too

LOL NO! im talking racing with turns. Straight line would be much closer but i'm sure i would have come out on top of that one too. A goat with street tires is still a lead sled. And i said that "I" am the replacement for displacement. It was a sarcastic comment about my driving being far superior to that of the driver of the GTO. I don't mean to brag but yeah I really was much better and the arrogance of his liscense plate made it that much sweeter.

MKT said boost was key, and i tend to agee as far as boosting a bigger engine yeah that will make horsepower but stock for stock STI>GTO. And once the mighty ls2 has been boosted what happens when you have to turn?
