Counter service restaurant using express cash only and limited menu lane

I really don't see them getting rid of the dining plan. I think if anything more and more people are wanting it. We have been several times but only used the plan this last time. I am hooked on it. The whole time we were there, we never had trouble with anyone not knowing what was covered and what was not. If there is a problem, it's most likely not with the cast member. It's not hard to figure out once you have done it a time or two.

One thing that I saw a lot while in line for lunch down there was that people somehow always tend to go to the first line or two that is close to the entrance of the counter service areas. If they would just walk in, most of the lines on the other side were not as busy. We always walked in and went around the crowd to the lines that were shorter. I'm not kidding, they just walk in and stop in the first line that they see. Has anyone else noticed this? Granted, we do eat lunch at around 11:00 am.

I too saw people stop at the first register. I also saw people stand in line for up to ten minutes, get to the cashier and then decide what they want! augh. The CM problems we ran into were mostly on size of beverages, dessert options etc. At sit down restaurants we had a few CMs who got really confused trying to figure out what to charge each room. We were a Grand Gathering. After the second day my husband used a sharpie and wrote on the three main room keys what each room had..2 Adults, 2 children etc. That helped a bit, but not 100%. The dining plan is great, we use it, we love it. But with Grand Gatherings there are a few kinks they still need to work out.

How is it faster to do a cash transaction than swipe a credit card? I would think that a true express lane would be no cash.

I've seen situations go both ways, however when signatures are not required I think the credit card swipe is much faster. You notice these things standing in line at Subway every other day. People seem to moan and groan more when someone flings out that ancient green papery stuff.

25 and under

$25 or less doesn't require a sig. on Disney property, anymore...

I believe this is because anything under $25 that is disputed is not contested by major card companies. We do this at work and only ID customers if the purchase is over $25.

Regarding the speed vs cash and credit, cash is much easier for any experienced cashier to use. Debit can be slow with people not remembering their pin, forgetting to hit enter, or taking 15 seconds to enter 4 numbers. Then on top of that you have to wait for the card to process then print out a receipt. Which is also an issue with credit cards. Another problem with credit is if you need to ID most people are not ready for that. Cash is easy no processing, declines, network down and checking id's. Just take the money, count the change back and print a receipt if your asked for one.

I live in Orlando... 180 days out isn't even in my mind

That's what I was thinking.. 180 days??? Usually its more like 180 minutes.

"If you are staying at a Disney Resort or Live in the the Orlando Area, and want Dining with in the next 7 days, Please press 1 now."

Boma here I come! :slurp:

I was just about to post the exact same thing!! I find swiping a card much faster and a lot more efficient than using cash. I completely agree a real express lane would be no cash at all- set up those little machines where people swipe their own card and if necessary, put in their pin, and be done with it.

If people would actually sign the back of their cards, there would be no need to ask for ID. I can understand why people do it, but the card itself says "not valid unless signed."

And no need to worry about PIN numbers at Disney - debit cards are treated as credit cards.

Personally, from my experience, credit cards are the easiest to process - with resort cards being the easiest of all, if only because you don't need to input anything extra. Especially with the new $25 and under rule, it makes it even faster. I like that new system a lot. :)
