Echo lake drained and being painted

Was in Disney two weeks ago and then again over the weekend. CM told me that Echo Lake developed a crack and that it was leaking out under the lake and eroding the subsurface soils and leaking into some of the the below ground structures for Indiana Jones. They had to drain and patch the lake. While doing that they decided to refurbish the infrastructure in the lake. I didn't know the CM so I can't verify his info.

sounds reasonable...if Disney will push off a Haunted Mansion refurbishment as long as they have, I would be surprised if they voluntarily emptied out Echo Lake to repaint the bottom if there wasn't a more important reason to be draining out the lake (like a leak).

MGM has been undergoing various "structural" refurbs on a rolling basis for some time now. Like roofs and fascades and such.

Eventually they'd reach Echo Lake if it needs refurb - and they repainted all of the buildings/structures that surround it too.

With the water table in the area being as high as it is, I'm not so sure that a little water leaking out of a man made lake would really make a big difference .

In Florida a water source leaking like that could be a big potential problem that could result in a sink hole.

Simple physics.. increase the depth of water (or the height of a column of water).... water pressure increases on its boundries. So even if the Indy areas were below a water grade.. having more water above it coming down = bigger problem.

Wonder when, if ever, Echo Lake was drained for refurbishment? Of course last time I was at WDW to exerience the magic was August 1993, so, yeah, it's been a while.

Is this the first time Echo Lake has been drained for maintenance?

I took some photos of the drained lake last weekend that I can post, but I'm not at my personal computer so it'll have to wait a few hours. I'm sure someone can beat me to it!
