Package Delivery from DTD

Question: Do the DTD shops participate in the package delivery service offered for onsite guests?

We are looking at spending an entire day at DTD,and ending our evening at PI, but it occurred to us that shopping meant carrying stuff around with us, which we hate. Then we remembered package delivery, but never remember hearing anyone say whether or not they offer that service. Or if it is only the Disney-owned shops, perhaps, that participate, and any third-party store may not...

What say you?

Sure. We always have our stuff sent back to the resort, especially since there's a tendency to buy most souvenirs at DTD. It'll be ready for you by the next day.

This is good to know. I had the same question and am happy to hear that we won't have to carry our parcels around. Are there any stores that don't participate in package delivery?

The water parks don't, but I don't know how much you'd be buying there anyway!

Just make sure you're mindful of any possible cutoff times for package delivery. After that it'll take 2 days for your packages to arrive - or you'll be stuck carrying them!

I just got word from another online friend that there are several shops that apparently don't participate in package delivery. And sad for me, it includes the Lego shop! :(

I would appreciate some more firsthand experiences either way.

Another option is to have you packages shipped home - it's worth the extra charge not to have to worry about finding room in your luggage to bring stuff home, or worry about it getting broke. I just HAD to have a pair of those really cool big yellow Mickey Mouse slippers for my Mickey themed bedroom - thay would have taken up one whole suitcase by themselves!!

Is there a $$ amount minimum that you must spend to get delivery to your room? I doubt they're going to deliver a $15 t-shirt to my room, are they?

In early October we had our package from the Lego store sent to our room at POP. Perhaps it would be worthwile calling.

Here's a tip about charging to your room and/or sending packages to your room: let the cm know that you want to charge or have your packages delivered BEFORE they start ringing in the purchases, otherwise they have to start all over again with a special receipt in the cash register. Saves time for you and everyone in line behind you.:p

They do deliver a bag with only one t-shirt in it, at least they have for me! They won't deliver food items, or if you are checking out in the next two days. I wouldn't buy something small, like a pin or earrings and have it sent since a tiny bag has a high chance of getting lost, but a large or medium bag shouldn't be a problem. I've never had a bag go missing and I must have had 20 or so deliveries in my travels to WDW.

As someone has pointed out, they will definitely deliver a t-shirt to your resort regardless what you paid for it. It's no sweat off their brow to deliver anything. I'm sure they have lots of other parcels going there at the same time.

We are thinking about doing the shipping thing as well. The only thing is, we have no idea what the charges are like. We live in Canada so I'm sure they'd be higher than shipping within the States. Does anyone know? Do they ship right from the shop?

This is a wonderful tip. I wouldn't have known that it would make a difference. Thanks.

Boy, do I know THAT one from personal experience. :lookaroun Rang up about half a dozen items at World of Disney, and totally forgot about package delivery until after the transaction was over. (Major whoops). He had to process the items as a return, and then re-ring the whole sale. I felt like slinking into a crack in the floor. (And an additional headache, that refund transaction held up money on my pre-paid debit card for a couple days, making those funds unavailable when I thought I had money left on the card)

Although you only have to mention the resort delivery beforehand, not charging to your room key. For charging to the room, the register just handles it like any other credit card and doesn't need to be pre-informed. (Though I suppose it wouldn't *hurt* to mention it, it's just not *necessary*.)

The other benefit to mentioning package delivery beforehand is that the CM can give you the slip to fill out while they ring up the sale, thus streamlining the transaction even more.

I honestly don't remember what we paid for shipping home - in my case it was pay the shipping or leave the items in Florida - no contest!! And, yes, they ship right from the shop. Tell them before they start ringing you up and they'll give you the paperwork to fill out.

I had a big figure delivered by UPS from DTD to my home and it cost just $6-8. Can't remember the exact amount, but I know that it reached the house in just 2 days when the guy told me 5-6. I am sure, though, that costs to Canada are slightly different. But, it gives you an idea.

I had a $10 mug delivered =) Also, they don't deliver to your room. It goes to the store in your resort, and you pick it up there the next day. It's very simple, I loved the service.

Shipping has gone up in the last several months. On our last trip we made the mistake of shipping home since the trip before wasn't that high and usually the shipping cost covered what we were paying in taxes (you don't pay sales tax on the items if you ship them).

On our last trip we ended up getting a box from the resort hotel and packing up our stuff. We took it to the conceirge desk in the lobby and they shipped it home for $20 (which would have cost us $75-100 if we had done it at the store.)

Keep in mind though, in my experience it takes longer for merchandise to arrive at the hotel from DTD than from the parks.

Last time (May 2005), it took 5 days for a book to arrive from the Virgin megastore to get to Pop Century. Staff at Pop couldn't be more helpful, but told me that it wasn't uncommon for DTD stuff to be late.

Thank you all for the information, especially the link. That gives me a great idea on what shipping would be. I guess we'll work out the totals and if its not much more to ship it than it is to pay taxes, we'll go for it!

We've used the service from all over the world, parks and DTD. As stated there are a few exceptions. No food not even a bag of cashews!
