Anyways, I'm off. Night all!
Well there's good definitons, like "persuasuve writing/speech that communicates point" or "empty/insincere language" or "words used to make one sound only pretentious."Uhm. The only one?
But how much faith can we place in products designed for profit to educate or children?
But how much faith can we place in products designed for profit to educate or children? While I do not find inherent issues in Baby Einstein-type products, it seems unwise that [some] parents seem to believe their own responsibly of educating their child may be abated through the use of non-interactive (by nature, movies and television cannot interact with a child in the sense than a human can) consumer products?

I don't mind so much the first and second, but the last is one I want to avoid. :lookaroun
A lot. Because they work
What are you supposed to give the children if the consumer products aren't there? A stick and some rocks? We're living in the information age. Education will be through information, even at a young age.

I agree.I don't think they should be used as a sole means of teaching a child, but I don't see a problem using it as an adjunt to what the parents are doing.
I have to say that I enjoy the Baby Einstein series and plan on buying them for my new nephew.
We were at a Halloween party at a friends house and their little boy (just over 1 year old) was just into everything.....his mom showed him the baby Einstein DVD and he got so excited. He was very interested in what was going on. She is a very hands on, stay at home mom, but it served a great purpose to entertain him and teach him something.

They are.Luke said:Aren't the last two pretty much the same anyway? By being insincere you come across pretentious, no?
Which?/Dang.

Hi Chrissy. Did you ever get over the dizziness from the other day?
Or even the parents watching w/ the child. It can be used as a tool in addition to other methods that can complement each other.
When I was little, my mom & I used to watch Sesame Street together and then she'd refer to it when we'd read books together (so I hear from her, I don't remember)...I was reading in preschool so it must've worked
