Why hasn't BatB been replaced?

BatB has been shown at MGM Studios since 1991. This has been by far the longest run for a stage show. Why hasn't been replaced? Everyone knows MGM needs a refreshed look. Why not change the show? I know a reason for the show staying open might be because of its popularity, but when I am at Disney, the show is never that popular and new quests that I am with are dissapointed with the show. You could even have a rotation of shows (ie. Monday-Thursday: BatB; Friday-Sunday: New Show) if building a new show building is a hassle. Don't you think BatB time is up?

I dunno, BatB is a really good show, I would hate to see it go, I'm not sure if a rotation of shows is feasible, but it would be a good idea.

Rotation of shows could potentially be a pain, depending on the size of the other show. BATB is still popular, or it would be gone by now. The same reason Little Mermaid is still at MGM.

I thought "Tarzan Rocks" was popular, but why did it get the boot? I personally think Tarzan was an overall better theatrical stage show (acting, lighting, ect.). Although BatB is a GREAT show, my old high school did Disney's Beauty and the Beast play and I thought our high school did a better performance than Disney's......Sorry Disney!!

I like BatB, and I wasn't a big fan of Tarzan. I only saw it once, and never had any real desire to go back. Lion King was my favorite, I have gone back many times just for that one.

I adore the BatB show at MGM. It's one of the few things I actually DO at MGM. It always seems quite popular when I go and I always go in value season. This is the show that the broadway show came out of. I was lucky enough to see the stage show when it hit Toronto a number of years ago and would see it again in a heartbeat. Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney's most popular movies since it was first released. I vote to keep the stage show at MGM! It's a can't miss for me.

I have never been to the show but have it in the plans for my upcoming trip in December. However, do not plan on seeing the BatB show replaced for a very long time. Disney Studios has far more important areas to address. Sunset Blvd pulls quite the crowd and BatB is a nice time filler with Tower and RNRC close by. First of all, the soundstage that previously housed Millionaire needs and is going to be renovated with a new E-ticket. Second, the Sounds Dangerous show needs to be replaced with something that will actually attract people rather than just having people stop in. Third, Star Tours needs to be updated with modern technology and a new film. Fourth, the Indy show will be retired and replaced with some sort of ride (no, we will not get into this debate, it is too far down the road). Fifth, the Backlot Tour needs to be improved or scraped and replaced (current condition stinks compared to old). That is pretty much just a start on what needs to happen or is currently in development for the Disney Studios. As you can see BatB is far from needing to be replaced. By the way to the OP, I in know what am trying to bash you, just simply stating other things at the Disney Studios.

i like the show, but i completely agree... if you want to leave BatB there - at least change the show... enclose the theater (air conditionaing... mmmm) and make it a little longer... could you imagine the BE OUR GUEST number in an enclosed theather with more special effects?

the b&B theater was built to look like a very small version of an outside ampatheater. And the backstage area is very small. enclosing the theater would just be impractical. And the show has gone through changes. i think the current version is the thrid version. The whole story telling with the fabric was added in the new version. and the wolves use to be bats.

The Hollywood Bowl is, I believe, is the theater it is designed to resemble.
I can't tell you how much more I liked the show this year compared to when I first saw it in 1996. Back then, the songs were moved around (it started with "Be Our Guest"), there was way too much of an attempt at trying to impress people with unnecessary dance scenes (the bat scene alone was perhaps the worst stage show scene Disney has ever done), and the transformation was beyond hokey. Now, the story follows the movie, the songs are where they should be, there are no silly bats dancing around, and the transformation...well, okay, the transformation scene still isn't all it could be. I've always wondered why they didn't adopt the Disneyland stage show's version of the transformation where Beast was actually lifted up off the stage, cocooned in his cloak, the cloak begins to twinkle, and when he is turned around, the Prince is human again. It was an amazing effect, and if it could be done back in 1993, surely it could be done even better now.
As to replacing it, no. Why must anything that is more than 5 years old need to be replaced? The theater still packs full of people at each show, and it still feels fresh to me (even more so because of the changes). I was just there in May and saw it, I just watched my video of it, and I know I'll be going to see it again in 26 days. In fact, of all the "shows" at the Disney Parks, the only one I'd currently replace is Lights, Motors, Action. It's the newest, yet for me the worst attraction ever put on by Disney. I disliked Tarzan Rocks! a great deal, and I wasn't too fond of the original Beauty and the Beast show (mentioned above), but LMA was strangely the dullest and most painful thing I saw the whole time I was there. All that supposed "action," and I wasn't the least bit interested. If any show needs a change, my vote would be for that one.
Of course, I enjoy Sounds Dangerous! and Stitch's Great Escape!, so most would probably not put much credence my opinion...and that's okay.

I don't agree with getting rid of BaTB...it's a really good show. However, if it must go, let's not stop there. How about we tear down all of the Studios (except ToT, RnRC and the motor car show) and start over?

And, while we are at it, let's tear down Toontown and build it again like it is at Disneyland!

That's the way they do the transformation in the Broadway show.

Speaking of which, wasn't the logic behind closing Tarzan Rocks that it would take business away from the Broadway production? The BatB show at MGM certainly hasn't taken any business away from the Broadway production, which is still going strong.

Cool.... I never heard of that effect before.

As for the latter part of the quote......That's what opinions are for. Just like the attractions, they are not meant to please everyone!

100th post!!!!! :p
