Dinasours at Universe of Energy?

Just wondering if the Dinosours are still a part of the universe of enenrgy attraction at Epcot? I'm trying to decide if it is worth taking my 4 year old on it. I think he would like them but if that part is gone the rest seems a little advanced and boring for him. Would rather spend the time in imagination or Living Seas. If they are still in UOE is it basically the same as the dinosour ride at Animal kingdom? I haven't been to AK yet so I don't know what that is like. Thanks!

They were there last November, and they were a good dry run for my son to see if he could handle "Dinasaur" at Animal Kingdom.

I'm so freaking scared of dinosaurs...it's scary! I didn't go on Dinosaur! And the CM told me that the dinos on UOE weren't like popping out at you like on Dinosaur, and I still didn't go! Ever since my aunt took me to some zoo with AA dinosaurs, I've been scared ever since! So sorry, I can't answer your question! :(

Dinosaur is much more intense than UoE. Dinosaur is quite dark with dinos jumping out at you, meteorites falling around you, and a very jerky ride. UoE is well lit in the dino areas and a slow and smooth ride. Dinosaur also has a 40" min. height limit.

The rides for UoE and Dinosaur are very different. UoE is a typical Epcot smooth, dark ride that is intended to be educational. If we could still see dinosaurs, this is what they would look like. Dinosaur is a thrill ride. The ride is rough and intentionally scary. I suspect they have a height requirement to even ride in the vehicles. I think it might be a little intense for a 4-year-old.

and no height requirement for UoE.

Thanks for the info! I've been on UOE before so I know what that is like. I think we'll wait and see what his mood is at AK and decide that day about Dinasour. UOE is cool and we'll likely do it unless I think he'll get scared (not too likely).

What you might want to do is take him on Primevil Whirl first. It's a pretty jerky ride, although the theme is much lighter. If he really enjoys it, try Dinosaur, if not, skip it.

Great idea! We will be at AK before epcot so this makes a lot of sense.

Havent been on UoE in a long while, try since 1996. But Im pretty sure they still have the dinos. As it is almost the attractions trademark.

UoE is not that intense but don't forget there are some very dark areas and some noisey segments. You need to evaluate your child's ability to handle dark and noise. And it's a long ride (preshow and ride is 45 minutes) so attention span would also be a consideration.

I meant try Primevil Whirl before Dinosaur, not before Universe of Energy. I can assure you, Universe of Energy wouldn't frighten an infant. And I should know, since I took my 1.5 year old sister on that ride :)
Primeval Whirl has an 8 inch greater height requirement that Dinosaur so in all probability a 4 year old won't make the 48" height requirement.

Dinosaur is a pretty scary ride. My youngest loved it but she is a thrill ride junkie. If your little one startles easily or is really frightened by things jumping out at them Dinosaur is not the ride for him. The physical ride is not that bad but there are quite a few frightening to terrifying moments in the ride.

 Really??? Geez. I had no idea. That's got to be on of the highest height restrictions...I wonder why. Any ideas?

The rotating movement methinks. A young child fell out or was thrown from Roger Rabit's Cartoon Spin at Disneyland and suffered severe brain damage (I think he went into a coma). So, Disney is paranoid about any ride that spins in that manner.

For reference, Roger's is like a dark ride in Fantasyland but in a Teacup you control the spin of, the child fell out and was hit by a car.

Ah, that would make sense. I rode primevil whirl on Saturday, and our car was only half filled...and I was ripped around the car like no other. It was pretty painful, actually, because at ever twist, my poor behind would get dragged over the divider. I could see how that would be dangerous for a smaller child. Thanks for clearing that up

I would imagine the primary reason is due to the over the shoulder restraint system and the height it is installed at. The severe spins might also be a factor as well as suggested by merf. Primeval Whirl is an "off the shelf" coaster so in-turn no quite as kid friendly. Give a crew of imagineers a crack and the ride vehicle and I'll bet the minimum height would come down to 40" or even 36".

I went on Primeival Whirl once.... once.

We all agreed it was basically the worst roller coaster we had the displeasure to go on. The fact that it was THEMED to be a bad roller coaster just made it that much worse. As the most meta roller-coaster ever, its actually the best themed ride ever built, to the point that its theming transcends time and space and becomes reality.

See how good the theming is? It actually changed the topic of this thread from UoE to itself. Scary.....
