Remember when Tower of Terror had the old lap bars? They were so great. You got so much air time. There was only one seat belt seat. Then around 2003/04 they swithced to seat belts, causing them to lose a seat and you don't get as much airtime. Does anyone know what happned and why they changed? Could it have been stricter safety or did they do it because in California, they built their Tower of Terror with seatbelts? I wish they would put it back the old way. What do you all think

I do miss the air time. But, I had a situation where I went on with a girl and her very lerge father. Both of them were very heavy set, and the bar was so high up that I could stand up in the seat. The girl had to put her backpack behind me so I was pushed under the bar. Seatbelts are great for safety reasons.

I'm the smallest person by far in our group of Disney Travellers and when we would drop, I'd be up in the air while the rest of the group would get a little jolt:lol:

It was definitely a different experience. I have to admit, I feel a bit more secure with my own seat belt.:lol::lol:

to get a little more air time pull the seat belt more than you need so it is a little more flexable that way you'd still be safe, but get more air time than if it were tight against your stomach.

Might not be the best idea. If they see someone has a belt too loose, the bellhops will stop the ride and you may be asked to leave the ride for the day(From what I've read).

YES! I loved the lap bar!! I was really disappointed when I came back in '04 to see that they were gone, the air time was amazing. Although the seatbelts don't take away from the greatness of the ride.

Since they removed the lap bar I haven't been able to ride it. I just don't have anything to hold on to.

   I just loved the ride when it had the lap bars.

I remember the lap bars well. But I always enjoyed the seat belt seat in the top row. I would loosen it just a little to give me extra air time.

The days of the lap bars were awesome for one thing...the JUMP SEAT!

I simply didn't believe that it was the best seat on the ride until one year, I specifically asked for the jump seat.

I am a big fan of thrill rides, and was sceptical of how much better it could be...and I was WRONG!

That was, by far, a completely different experience. Of course, there was no hanging on the side bars. It was hands-up all the way. My friends and family all ended up doing the same test, and we ended up arguing about whose turn it was in the jump seat.

I remember when I was younger being the little scranny kid in the row always flying up. I really do miss those bars, I would miss them a lot more if they were padded though.

I miss the lap bars.
I'm a big guy and it's a pain having to fumble with buckling and unbuckling seat belts.
What buckling... I never buckle... Using the end of an old safety belt... FREE FALL!!!

But guys?

Don't try this, it could be very dangerous... if you don't know exactly what you're doing...

I always asked for the seatbelt seat because you could loosen it a little and get major airtime. You couldn't do that sharing the lapbar with everyone in the row :)

IMO every
Die Hard wanted that one and only seat... just for the seatbelt...

So I don't know what everyone is whining about... people wanted more
seatbelts... they seemed to be more... errr.. "Cool"... so to say...

Now, once installed, everyone starts complaining... we miss the Lap Bars...

If the seatbelt is locked properly for more airtime (ie. lock it with your hand between you and the belt) you'd have more airtime than you had with the lap bar...

And if you don't want airtime... lock it, like it should be locked according the rules... (tight)

I had tried that before, then let it go, but couldnt you just sit on the excess and then let it free during the ride, or could they still someway find out.

Put a pack in between.. it always works for me...

Don't forget, the seatbelts were installed by popular demand...
