All Star Resorts or Pop Century?

Ok, so it looks like I may get my wish early and get to go back to WDW in September 2007.

Now I've stayed at ASMo before and did really enjoy it there, liked the food offered etc. as I'm quite picky about food and things they offered were nice and simple.

We were thinking about staying at Pop this time a) as it's newer and b) it gets it's own bus.

Anyone have any thoughts on this, are any of the All Star Resorts better than the others or would you stay at Pop (I know they all seem to be one and the same, but I'd appreciate any comments previous visitors have)?

Thanks guys!

i say for for POP- It's nice to check out the newer resort and if you like the food elsewhere - you can always "pop" over and eat there. Besides the bus is a plus!! Have ablast and let me know how you like it!!!

I think it would be nice to try a different one. We were thinking of a mod resort but then I think for the amount of time we will actually spend in the hotel it ain't worth it for us.

Without question POP is the better option. Dedicated 1 stop bus system, centrally located to the parks and a newer resort.

If you want to step up to a moderate I would highly recommend PO. For us the extra $30 is well worth it. The values still seem like a hotel while the moderates and deluxes really feel like a resort and definitely add to that complete removal from reality that WDW is famous for.

Once you try a moderate it is really hard to go back to a value. Don't get me wrong the values are still a great place to stay but they are missing that "X" factor that the moderates and above have.

I'd love to do it, but when you're there 14 nights it really adds up, that's the trouble....
That it would. Our longest stays hover around the 3 night range. We do those once or twice a year. The rest of the year we do 1 to 2 night stays so it is only a $30 or $60 increase and not a $420 increase that you would incur.
You might want to spread you stay over 2 resorts (providing you are not doing free dinning) spend 10-12 nights at POP and switch over to PO for the remaining days. It is a nice way to spoil yourself at the end of the trip.

hi
i stayed at all star movies and pop. i loved the food at ASM and the hotel all together. as for pop i liked it as well, having a bus just for pop was good. when i go back i will go back to ASM i did not like the food at pop i felt there wasn't as good a selection and the staff was kind of rude to us. pools and theming is just as good at both places the rooms were the same to both places the only differences were the food is better at ASM and the bus although i didn't see as big a difference in the ride as i had hoped it stopped at blizzard beach sometimes and for some reason it just didn't seem that much difference. from ASM the only thing i saw better between the hotels was the food court. hope this helps

We just returned from a nine-day stay at Pop Century, and I have to recommend it to anyone. This is our fourth-straight stay at this resort (after years of staying exclusively at Caribbean Beach).

I've always found the staff friendly and accomodating. The food court has your typical fare, but a few exceptions stand out...like the philly cheese steak wrap...and the omelettes they were serving at breakfast were outstanding.

Sure, there's more offered at the moderate resorts, but, if you're like us, and only use your room to sleep and shower, then check in to Pop Century and stick the extra cash in your pocket. (I *will* agree that it's worth another $10 a night to get a preferred building...but that's just a personal preference.)

P.S. Heading back in August 2007...or only 51 more Fridays!

Ok ultimate question - do they have the grilled ham & cheese at Breakfast at Pop? This was my favourite at ASMo and it could sway the decision if Pop don't do it?!!!!

I don't know about anyone else but the theming at Pop just grates on my nerves. I don't know why. If theming wasn't a consideration, I would choose Pop every time due to: 1) newness, 2) cleanliness, and 3) cheaper (lower taxes there than in the county where the AS resorts are).

the only thing bad i have to say about pop is the parking. I arrived the day of Ernesto & our room was back along the lake so no way to park close. Had to walk past the Bowling Pin pool to get to the room & there was not covering the whole way. I wrapped my pillow in my raincoat so I got wet and it stayed nice and happy. Walking through rain with luggage not fun. At least at the All Stars you can park closer to all the buildings.

How could I forget the poor parking situation? It was a LONNNNG haul from the lot to the room! Pay the extra $$ and get a preferred room....a room next to the parking lot!

We're not hiring / taking a car, we doing all transfers and Disney transport, so parking wouldn't be an issue for us, but thanks for the tip!

Love Pop. It's just fun. When you arrive, nicely ask for a room on the top floor as a preference over what building. Also ask for a quiet location when you are checking in. Again, nicely. If there are any groups in attendance, they are more likely to put you away from them, if they can.

The place isn't really that big, but a top floor means quiet. A top floor facing the lake means even more quiet at night. No guarantee of your next door neighbors, but at least no one walking above you and hearing toilets flushing above you.

Enjoy!

I didn't even think about that! We just happened to be on a top floor at Movies, but I'll be sure to request it when we arrive (nicely!!)
