I've changed my mind...there are some really dumb people.

It always bothered me on here when people would call others dumb and/or stupid because they don't know the exact correct term for something, (ex. fast track, mission to mars, etc).

I still don't think people are dumb for not knowing things like that, for example, last week on our visit, on the train ride at the Animal Kingdom, some kid asked his parents what the fence was for, and they responded with, "That is Jurassic Park"...most people on here would say they were stupid, I still don't think they are, they are just not accurate.

BUT, on a bus ride to the Animal Kingdom, I did hear something that is truly stupid. A kid asked his family, "Is that the real Mt. Everest?" His brother replied with, "No stupid, the real Mt. Everest is in Colorado." He was still elementary school age, so I didn't think either of them for dumb for not knowing. BUT, the dad jumped in and said, "No, both of you are wrong, Mt. Everest is in a different country...Pakistan I think."

They were probably just confused by the Mt. Everest Road Tour in 1996. That show rocked! So to speak.

I caught the show when Mt. Everest came to Dallas. I think the opener was Warrant. Gawd, were they awful. But it was worth it to see Mt. Everest in person.

Stupid is a relative term. The man corrected the children by saying Everest was in another country. So give him credit for that. And he did know Pakistan has mountains. Plus he qualified his answer with an "I think" -- leaving it open for correction down the road. Lots of people don't bother to do that. Instead of admitting "I don't know. Let's look it up." to a kid, they make something up and then stick with it regardless of the facts. I hate that!

I remember hearing people say lots of inaccurate things.. and I guess being a huge disney fan- it would bother me and others like us more.

The point is..

If you don't know something...........then don't pretend like you do.... simple as that.

But I guess there is just too much ignorance.

Be careful not to confuse stupid with a lack of knowledge.

A person who does not know the geographical location of a mountain has a hole in his knowledge but may be perfectly capable of solving a complex problem put before them.

Alternatively (and having worked with a number of university graduates I know this to be true), a person may have an in depth knowledge of the location of said mountain, the chemical composition of the various layers of rock and comprehensive knowledge of the local area and customs, but can't display any common sense.

Let's not confuse ignorance with stupidity. Ignorance can be excused, as it is just a lack of knowledge; stupidity is something done, beyond what one would call common sense, irregardless of cognizance of fact or effect of said action.

For the record (or to sound important while in AK): The location of Mount Everest is Latitude 27° 59' N.....Longitude 86° 56' E It's summit ridge seperates the countries of Nepal and Tibet.

Everest's name in Nepal is Sagarmatha (means: goddess of the sky)
Everest's name in Tibet is Chomolungma (means: mother goddess of the universe)

Completely correct. I think the amusement in threads like these comes from people simply acting like arrogant know-it-all's without having the facts, not simply that people don't know the details of WDW. It's funny to laugh at someone who thinks they know what they are talking about but does not.

We always have to recognize the fact that we know much more than the average person about WDW (really, to most people, if it's "Cinderella" or "Cinderella's" Castle is of little consequence, but around here it's a sin to say it incorrectly), but it's still fun to laugh at the people who THINK they do. Like the proverbial father sitting on the Monorail telling his kids how Walt Disney used to ride this very car...
