There's no argument here. It's just a simple fact that the Ducks are the only major league sports team on the West Coast, and likely the nation, to now automatically include parking in all of their game tickets. Whether you use the parking space or not, it's now automatically included in the ticket price.

The Angels don't do it, the Lakers the Rams and the Dodgers don't do it. The Padres don't do it. The Mariners and Seahawks don't do it.

And the organization that owns the Ducks, the Samueli family, have just built new state-of-the-art parking structures without staffed toll booths. And their upcoming dining/entertainment center will not need toll booth attendants to operate.

This is an entirely new concept in parking/ticketing, and I think Disneyland could easily transition to that type of Ducks/OCVibe system and no longer employ a heckuva lot of CM's who currently operate all those staffed toll booths for them. On both coasts.
HAHAHA, wow, I guess Major League Soccer in a large Bay Area city is not a major league sport on the West Coast. I mean its only right on their main page and everything.

Its not a new concept, and they aren't the first. Its proven and don't know why you can't accept it.

Anyways a dozen churros, your favorite currency, that the EGW parking structure opens with ticket booths. It'll be a bit of time before DLR moves to removal of Parking CMs. Again "should they" vs "will they" are two very different things for Disney.

Disney should offer free parking to theme park guests, however it would instead just raise the cost of theme park tickets by $35 which defeats the point and punishes carpoolers, ride sharers, and hotel guests that walk over.

I'm not going to argue with you about this anymore. Its becoming common for parking to be included in many venue events. For example San Jose Earthquakes were including Parking with some of their season ticket packages -

This is kind of a different thing though. It's a choice / (perk?) for some season ticket holders. They're not building it in to every ticket. (And I presume these folks are presenting their special parking passes to be scanned upon entrance to the parking area - not just cruising on in.)

I'd really be curious to see the data from Samueli's "sharp-pencil boys" to see how they worked this all out. Are they up-charging by percentage of ticket price per event? Are they going to require all restaurants to add in a percentage, or a flat fee? Is this per diner or assumed car-load? What's going to be the damage added to rent in their office spaces?

Right now, there's really only one legitimate reason to park in those structures - to attend an event at Honda Center, so their "fee schedule" must center around that. But also right now, one could park, stroll around the construction site, or maybe walk across Katella for some reason then head on out of there without paying a dime. (Admittedly, the odds of someone doing this are slim.) Once all their attractive public areas and woonerfs are in place, it will presumably be a draw for people to leisurely explore (much like any other outdoor mall). There's no guaranteed baked-in parking income from that.

This is my rambling thought way of saying this situation IS somewhat different from any other in SoCal. Lots of places have free parking, but not major events. Other places allow for validation, pre-payment, etc, but still require showing proof at some point. I look forward to seeing how this shakes out as the property gets fully developed.

You would guess right.

The top 4 sports in West Coast Markets are Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey. In that order.

I mean its only right on their main page and everything.

It's a soccer team in San Jose, two things that aren't exactly Top Tier, offering free parking if you buy Season's Tickets as a way to boost ticket sales. No offense meant to the good people of San Jose, random soccer fans, or Miss Dionne Warwick.

A regular ticket to a game of the San Jose Earthquakes (never heard of them, but chef's kiss on that hilarious name! 😙) does not include parking.

I will say that I shut down the soft sales pitch on the investment opportunity early on, as neither my sister nor I want to allow our family trust to have any additional exposure to future wealth taxes from California.

But the gist I got was that the Samueli's, and the OCVibe organization, had built their business model around making a visit to OCVibe fast and easy and upscale. No lines, no muss, no fuss. Pull right off the freeway into the parking structures and spend the evening dining and being entertained. Get back on the freeway just as fast, without hassle or more money.

They really want it to be a unique, and uniquely convenient, place and way to spend an evening in OC for upscale folks.

It helps that OCTA is currently expanding the Katella offramps and onramps from the 57 Freeway, plus adding new offramp lanes and merge lanes to the freeway itself, and they all lead directly into the new OCVibe parking structures.

Of course, it's all baked in to the ticket price and the menu charges. But still, it's an interesting concept. No toll booths needed.

Exactly, this is why again what Disney "should do" and "will do" are most often two very different things. Which is why I doubt they will ever roll the parking price into the Park ticket price.

As an aside, I'm wonder how each of you are coming up with this diametrically opposing position. Is there real data to be cited, or just opinion?

Or are you two actually arguing different things?

It's technically correct that the San Jose Earthquakes "is a major league sport on the west coast", because it's right there in their league's name.

It might also be technically correct that "The top 4 sports in West Coast Markets are Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey. In that order." That might be based on perceived attendance, revenue, televised viewing, etc. I don't know.

Could you both be right in this case?

That is not what he is wrong about, well not the only thing because he is wrong on that too as well as many thing in this discussion, but this whole premise that OCVibe and the Ducks are somehow the only organizations on the West Coast let alone the nation to ever think of including parking into their events is wrong. Many sports franchises are either including or starting to include parking for their season ticket members, for example the Colorado Rapids (another MLS team). Many colleges for example also include parking for many of their events, especially for alumni. Many civic auditorium locations around the nation also include parking for local events. And the list goes on and on. I know he has some weird pride for the region still even though he gleefully moved away, but OC is not the only region on the planet to ever do this and certainly OCVibe is not the first. Its been rare in the past, but its no longer as rare as it once was.

I think there are some people in the USA who consider soccer to be a major league sport. Personally, I don't, because the numbers of viewers and ticket holders in stadiums pale in comparison to the real major league sports in the USA.

I spend much of my summer playing tennis (badly), and sitting in the cocktail lounge of a tennis club where the TV's are constantly tuned to Wimbledon, the US Open, etc. It's a fun group of people who have known my family and I for decades, and the sport is followed passionately by many of them.

But is tennis a major league sport on par with Football, Baseball and Basketball in the US market. No. Of course it isn't. Neither is soccer in the USA. Or cricket. Or beach volleyball.

For the record, if you go to the US Open you have to pay extra for parking. Flushing Meadows has several lots and structures, but they all require a separate parking fee aside from your tournament ticket.

The Samueli family and Anaheim politicians had a golden shovel groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for the $1 Billion remake and upgrade to the Honda Center, which is the linchpin in the entire OCVibe project.

The Samueli's have done everything right with their team and its ability to generate local income and GDP, while just across the street the Moreno's seem to do everything wrong. Including landing some folks in jail, or with at least an FBI record and lawyer fees.

The description the OC Register gave, noting the included parking for all Honda Center events, made me chuckle. 🤣
