News Josh D’Amaro Named Next CEO of The Walt Disney Company

We need a step back from every ride being IP

I would like to see that but my guess is that wouldn't be a new CEO announcement. Maybe if the company is doing well after a few years and he's built up the credibility he could get by with approving a non-IP ride. (Or maybe they could tie it to an "IP lite", like Nat Geo).

I mean some people like having the stock valued right around the same level that it was 15 years ago.
So, your argument is that Iger should have sold off ABC and ESPN, doubled down on streaming, and went for more acquisitions?

As far as I am concerned selling off ABC and ESPN would have been a great thing. The company heck virtually all entertainment companies have all become too big for their own good. I have a feeling most of these companies will become a lot smaller in the near future due to long overdue stronger Anti-trust laws.

Why would he even want to stop them since he was the one that green lit them to start?
You all keep talking about Josh like he's some secretly evil guy meanwhile CMs really love him. And believe me if you start hanging around enough CMs (I'm friends with many) you'll realize very quickly that they hate company leadership more than just about anyone on this forum does, and a lot more passionately too. If they like Josh, to me that says quite a bit, and CMs have been very happy with his taking the wheel.

There were certain groups of cast members in my experience who had a strange parasocial relationship with Bob and referred to him in a particularly odd (and kind of disturbing) way. I'm going to be curious if that continues with Josh...

For what it's worth while I've never met Josh myself (simply haven't gotten the chance), I will say that I have heard that he is particularly beloved by frontline cast members in a way that we haven't seen in many many years. And the executives I've known who have worked with him or met him enough to form an opinion of him have also spoken highly of him.

Yes, I've heard about those folks too. At least on the DLR side, those folks were looked at very sideways by other CMs from what I've been told.

And yes to this! This is where my optimism where Josh is concerned comes from. If a group of people who're largely as tired and sometimes even jaded as some long tenured CMs feel the way they do about Josh, I have to imagine there's a good reason. I've been friends with some of these folks for a long time and I haven't really seem them this interested in things in a bit.

Ideally companies wouldn't be allowed to become too large, but enforcement hasn't been much of a thing since the 1980s let alone new laws. Today, size is protection. If you don't want to be the target of a takeover, you better make sure very few can afford it.

Ironically the 80s was the last great decade.

The CM's were able to point at Bob while Josh could fly under the radar with the decisions made that were troublesome but that changes now. Wait until the 3/4 ply is installed in the cast restrooms then the attitude will change....

I think it's a waste of energy and time waiting for other people to hate a person.
Hate is a strong word. I am thinking of a person I hate and I can’t think of any one..

I do hate that the fountain of nations is gone and we have that stupid planter with the forever broken ground lighting.

I do not hate the person responsible for this but I do hate the decision and execution.

In my opinion it’s a person or team that failed at a task.

Selfishly, I want the the best for WDW and don’t care about much about anything else in TWDC.

I hope Josh makes decisions I do not hate, but I won’t hate him for failing.

Did you see the money Josh got in the promotion? When it comes right down to it, for Josh it doesn’t matter what he does with TWDC, like Iger, he has enough money for multiple lifetimes.

I suspect he is saying to himself, don’t take risks, keep the stock stable and ride this money train.

This has been in the works for awhile, and has been in place at Disneyland Paris already (while he oversaw parks). Variable pricing has been in place with LL for example for years (also while he oversaw parks - heck, paid LL came online while he was over parks).

But maybe these anti-consumer things just keep happening all around him and he’s powerless to stop them, even now as CEO.
No…he was instructed to implement them…and encouraged it.

Because he was a drone from the hive and the queen of quarterlies decreed it.

…nothing will “improve for the guest” with internal succession.

I’m not gonna harp on it…I certainly don’t want to be right about it…but best bookmark this one now and get it over with.

Padawan…

The opinions of nametags have nothing to do with the quality of management. The same complaints revolve on a cycle that has been consistent for decades.

Who cares? I’m 101% front line and always have been…but their opinion is not what matters here.

What is being warned - in short - is that the corporate management structure that has rotted for a decade (conservative) is still intact and it not the right move to sustain it. That is “Josh”. Because he seems to be more personable than the last two stiffs…which is good…doesn’t mean any great decisions or course corrections will be made.

Unfortunately

Idk to me someone who is atleast willing to admit faults/short comings and talk to fans is starting off at a MUCH better level than others. Josh hasn't really had a chance to prove himself independently yet imo so I think its unfair to completely square him away but he's proven approachable, a good speaker, CMs and fans like him, and there has been some noticeable changes into the quality improvement with multiple attractions getting refurbs that, to be quite honest, have needed them for years/decades. I'm not saying its Josh but to me its saying that the purse is loosening up a little bit recently.

We all hope he’s different.

The jury is out. Gonna take awhile
