MK Big Thunder Mountain to receive full retrack

Knew it - they demolished the pathway in front of the entrance a few weeks back, it aint opening any time soon. The entranceway litterally opens onto a dirt slope right now.
They were already placing forms for repaving over two weeks ago when the last aerials were taken, and shifting walls this week show that there's already a significant freshly paved chunk in a style that matches the TBA area in front of the entrance.

Running a school trip to WDW first week of May. Really hoping BTMR and/or Buzz are open by May 1.

MK already ranks as the least favorite park every time we go and losing those two definitely won't help.

New hardscape can be installed relatively quickly.

“General Construction” is a very vague, broad scope of work. It could be extended for major work or it could be minor work that doesn’t significantly impact reopening.

I’m curious if there is any intention to either remove or fix the interactive queue elements? I remember there was some periscope type thing that you could look through and see a bird inside the cave and there was a button you could push to make an explosion happen on the mountain. These items were live for about a year and then they purposefully rerouted you around them in the queue to avoid them. Not sure if they were broke or just causing backups in the line.

Good question - I’d expect them to be removed.

The interactive elements test didn’t really do so well. I personally liked the “pager” idea they had at Dumbo and briefly tested at Rock n Roller - there was some legit possibility of changing how theme parks could be experienced with that test.

I still they want this open sooner rather than later. The permit might just be to buy them more time but they have every reason to get this opened quickly.

My guess would be they would be leaning away from those elements considering they are a reminder of a major billion-dollar project that didn't end up working out to put it lightly As an aside many of those complaining about how long these refurbishments take have clearly never been to Disneyland.

Any luck for this ride to be on open the start of May 2 for my trip?
It’s anyone’s guess until Disney tells us something other than “spring”. Personally I think they could have had it open by now, but Piston Peak construction is just feet away from parts of the track. It makes sense for them to keep BTMRR closed until they get done what they can to hopefully prevent another closure.

The two projects are being run by different groups. Facility Asset Management doesn’t really have a reason to draw out the project and incur more costs to somehow help Walt Disney Imagineering with a completely separate project.

There were some parts of this project that aligned with Cars. But, that was pre-planned and would not cause a delay now.

While I understand that, you don’t think there are issues with the proximity of the construction to the coaster track? There’s not much of a buffer in some locations.

I totally agree, as there should have been pre planning, but I have a feeling there was not, or there was things overlooked in the planning...

Just my feeling, but it seems Disney changes their mind sometimes mid-project like the Future World (renovation?),

Not in the next few months. They’re doing site work.

You don’t have to just make things up.
