Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

One of my lingering questions was how such a relatively small player was going to afford a “110B” acquisition. Looks like they are downgraded to junk.

Best of luck to them in this foray.

I wouldn’t wish them the luxury. If anything I see this as being another AT&T or Discovery merger in the making. And if that happens (again), what will happen to WB (again)?

Same as happened before, WB will be bought by someone else. WB hasn't been an independent Studio since 1967, its always been owned by someone.

But WB is going to pretty big, not certain who between the three choices (Netflix, Comcast, and Paramount) would want it, after that’s all said in done. I guess Sony, could take a crack at it. But I doubt they’ll get it. Disney absolutely can’t. Apple doesn’t seem interested. Comcast might be too big to get it. And Amazon is going to be viewed just as negatively as Netflix. So any other takers?

In the scenario where WB gets split from Paramount/Skydance it'll be the same size as it is now minus whatever Paramount/Skydance decides to keep. So the same potential buyers as today would be there in the future, all the names floated around during this time minus Paramount/Skydance.

Looks like Hoppers may be a pleasant surprise.

My guess is it is not as good as it would seem, IMDB score is much lower.

Looks like an above average movie, but it’s not Walle, Coco, or The Incredibles based on early reactions.

So is this going to play like Elemental or Good Dinosaur?

So Jews and Muslims will control the company. And this is bad why?

China’s soft power over Hollywood is exponentially worse, like in a different stratosphere becuase they actually force changes constantly.

These wealth funds operate differently than you’d think.

As I’ve already seen it, it’s right up there with a Wall-E or Incredibles for me - not quite a Coco (which to me is S-tier).

Also the reviews sort of point to where it sits amongst its peers, and I generally agree with this. The film has potential to do very well at the box office.

The current Metacritic score of 77 puts it in A Bugs Life(78)/Finding Dory(77))/Monster’s Inc(79) range

Pixar’s top grossing Inside Out 2 got a 73 for reference.

They both demand changes but at least movie creators can say no.

Not the same when those countries have a stake in ownership however.

I find Coco to be way below Incredibles or Walle lol, I think they’re best picture nominees tbh that got robbed.

They’re 10s, I’d give Coco a 9 at best but the gap is pretty large IMO, though I really hated Incredibles 2 for how “mediocre” it just felt, Finding Dory was legitimately awful, so I hope Pixar isn’t just experiencing the MCU effect of bloated crowd pleasing scores rather than shooting for the moon. Interstellar legitimately sits at 73% right now, is every Pixar film better than it except for Cars 2 and 3? Metacritic has Ratatouille at #1 with a 96/100, I honestly think that is probably the best Pixar film. I thought Zootopia 2 was beyond mid despite the tight script, so.

But that is really good news.

I really hope this signals positive changes for the studio. I thought Luca/Soul was a good stretch.

That said, I have serious problems with the message of “save the beavers” when they’re not even endangered.” It is a national security concern at this point, we don’t need another generation growing up with silly beliefs like “nuclear energy bad” for “anti-housing development” because it is the same thing, suburban sprawl brought out by zoning laws mandating single family homes is the issue, not building denser units and what not.

Could you potentially speak on this? Because I’m only taking away from the trailer obviously, which is not a good indicator for the final product😂

I really am pleased to hear!
