Does anyone else think Galaxy’s Edge is a misfire?

Rise is the perfectly executed ride.

Imagine it with a perfect theme.

Trackless is dull

So really was Star Tours

They never got that Star Wars never should have been dull. They confused the laid back tone of like empire and Jedi to mean that the fans weren’t high octane
I just did Rise and star tours and if they just made rise original trilogy and integrated Star tours in the land, Galaxy’s edge would be slightly improved, even if they totally cut Falcon and just made it a walkthrough.

There’s no doubt that an OT overlay would make a major boost in draw/appeal for that ride

And they need to

They’re trying to sell it for $26 a pop…and it’s a near walk on in the evenings

What it mostly comes back to is that those movies are atrocious

And thankfully Daisy Ridley now is ensured to not have a job again

It was the 5th biggest wait at HWS, which is pretty embarrassing.

If Mando is successful they’ll absolutely be doing Rise after Monsters opens.

Frankly, it’s terrific but it being in the Sequels and having cannons, lightsaber elevator, and finale Kylo broken is not up to show. Anytime that many things are down it’s time to close it for a refurbishment. Charging a premium for an incomplete experience is nuts.

I’d bet money on it.

Galaxy’s Edge just flat out needs a coaster too and more kinetics, but just doing Rise and being able to meet Darth Vader or Padme would do wonders.

And the tracking on that movie supposedly has the studio very concerned. Making a kiddie centric movie after they bombed the movie franchise was a really dumb move…which fits the Disney stewardship to a T

Never forget, Disney is struggling to appeal to boys because they’ve made their franchise too broad in appeal, thus appealing to no one.

George lied about that for 25 years after he couldn’t replicate the appeal of the original in the late 90’s

Nothing about the tone of the original movies was done specifically for 12 year old boys…even the Ewoks really weren’t (younger there)…
They managed to cut the films to appeal across a very wide demographic and couldn’t replicate it. Not a lot of the tone and texture were for adolescents…they were more deliberate character arcs that didn’t feel rushed.

There’s no doubt that an OT overlay would make a **MAJOR** boost in draw/appeal for that ride

Ok so which is it?????……. If we go old school are we talkin’ chump change for “dividends”or something monumental——— you two are agreeing but yet are very far apart in overall effects or yields.

If Disney hired me to “fix” galaxies edge as quickly as possible, here’s the simple solution-

1. divide galaxies edge into old trilogy and new trilogy. The dividing line is where the market and shops end and the rock work for Rise begins. Rise would remain NT because that would be extremely expensive to change at this point.

2. The millennium falcon ride experience would be 100% rooted in old trilogy. Update the ride experience and update the preshow. Ideally with R2-D2 and C-3PO the way they interact in the star tours Q.

3. Add streetmosphere Entertainment everywhere.

I’m the rise of the resistance area- there are always mechanics working on the planes that are visible in that area.

where that collection of droids is where the old vehicle garage area is where the small stage is all of those areas would always have streetmosphere characters.

Also, the millennium falcon itself there would always be streetmosphere working on or underneath the millennium falcon, loading cargo, unloading cargo working on the mechanics etc..

There should also be a roving band playing the cantina song wether this was fully costumed so they looked like the cantina characters or whether this was just a roaming band that could play the Cantina song. It doesn’t matter live musicians roaming the land.

Importantly, this Entertainment would not be hit or miss - you would always see these entertainers in this part of the park. If the park is open, there would be streetmosphere entertainers out throughout the entire land. They could rotate in and out, so there’s different characters and different things happening in different interactions, but there would always be streetmosphere entertainers out.

It’s not a hit or miss - this land is so void of personality and kinetic energy. It absolutely needs constant streetmosphere Entertainment to feel alive.

Only been to WDW’s version but I can say, the weakest aspect is actually the backside of the rock work- just uncovered wooden beams visible from the roads and highways. It’s ugly as hell and sits in the back of your mind as you enter the park. Reeks of cheapness, like this multinational corporation can’t spare a few dimes to cover its theming.

First thing I’d do is dump that stupid name

Would it be worth spending $200M on rise to change it? No.

Would it be worth $20M? Yes.

The land itself is flawed, which can never be fully fixed, but adding the dinner show, a coaster, some Ewok animatronics, more vegetation, complete timeline change, would make it the 9/10 land people wanted.

Except for the coaster which would have a high ROI, the rest would be easy to mostly do piecemeal.

I mean I get it, compared to MK, but go to Shanghai and despite having a similar lagoon setup it is far worse from the entry than HWS is.

Big picture this is a pretty irrelevant complaint but I get it.

I know a lot of people that thoroughly enjoyed the LARPing and storytelling of the Starcruiser, calling it unlike anything else in a really good way. I think that aspect was probably handled exceedingly well, and I hope they understand internally it really was a cost-issue over an experience one; that said, they should’ve just done a more traditional hotel but like super deluxe and all out Star Wars theming. I think a hotel with wings for Naboo, Endor, etc. would’ve been cooler and easier to integrate with outdoor pools and what not.

However, not only did it look more like Star Trek (gave Wish’s Star Wars Lounge vibes instead of the Oceaneer’s Lab), but the “dinner show” that we were supposed to get in the park looks like it’s for small children instead of the tween+ Star Wars has always been.

Massive mistake!

If they made the Dinner Show in Galaxy’s Edge like the Starcruiser, it would’ve been a disappointment, regardless.

After doing a Wish cruise, anecdotally, people really don’t like Galaxy’s Edge. The vibe I get is “I loved it the first time I went!”

Same bro, same. If they redo parts of the land and don’t up its maturity it will still be a fail. They need to stop talking down to their audience and be like Universal.

I don’t make excuses for bad ideas…not my job as the one who pays for it
Yeah Galaxy’s Edge is not “Adventure” but yikes.

I wasn’t going to go to Animal Kingdom but ended up really wanting to compare Pandora to Galaxy’s Edge again, like go there and analyze how it works, from seating, to weenies and sightlines, to atmosphere.

While bigger and themed with detail so it has inherent value, I genuinely feel like on execution it’s:

Galaxy’s Edge: 6/10
Pandora 10/10
Cars Land 11/10
Mysterious Island 11/10
American Waterfront 11/10
DLP Frontierland 10/10
New Orleans Square 10/10
The Potter lands 10/10 (They all feel like 10s in the land itself, Gringotts obviously is a very weak ride, so I don’t feel like it’d be fair to knock GE for Falcon for this reason, but if we just focus on atmosphere all the Potter lands at 10s IMO. Ministry of Magic at Epic is probably an 11/10 in the sense it feels so massive like Mysterious Island and exactly like IRL Paris, but I don’t think it feels cars/mysterious island good.

Treasure Cove at Shanghai is probably a 9/10.

New Fantasyland is probably like an 8/10, it’s a 9 probably if you don’t include Storybook, actually made our Fabtasyland competitive with DLP and California’s.

All somewhat arbitrary of course, but you probably catch my drift.

It’s going to be hilarious.

It may not hit Solo numbers if it sucks or is appealing to 6-year olds
