MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Does MK need another family level coaster? Doesn't Big Thunder Mountain meet that criteria.
So does Seven Dwarfs, and for kids you have Goofy.

I don't understand why there's such a push back to the idea of a "growing with the park" approach to the thrill rides.

A kid goes on Goofy, but wants to go on Seven Dwarfs so bad, but not big enough.
Next trip they get to go on Seven dwarfs, but now they really want to go on Big Thunder.
Then they want Space.
Then Tron.
Then Villains.

That is 5 (expensive) trips for a family with small kids right there.

And what is this notion that all kids don't like scary things or "scary" coasters? (Honestly, I don't know why I personally even keep saying 'scary' as that's not what I even mean or ever wanted from this. I just wanted eery and spooky. Thorny and gothic HM style.)
But Any kid, including myself, I have ever been on a Disney or Universal trip want to do is go on the big rides. Any kid I overhear on my many trips ever want to do is go on the big rides. I don't understand why some posters on here think kids hate big rides just because maybe they don't. (P.S> OBVIOUSLY I know not EVERY SINGLE kid likes big rides, but I think you are seriously kidding yourself if you truly think most don't.)

I would prefer that coaster to be closer to Hagrid's or even Hiccup's Wing Gliders (to get to a lower height requirement if concerned about that) than Slinkly Dog.
This exactly. I love the Emperor's New Groove, and would be thrilled to see a ride based on it, but I am hoping for
a Hagrids type, not a Slinky type. Everyone loves Hagrid's, the lines are always crazy long and it is just so fun!
I think a rollercoaster of that type would be more of a compromise since adults really enjoy it, too.

The funny thing is that I actually like Slinky.
But I really was thinking more Hagrids type coaster for this land. I guess it's my own fault for looking at that concept art for two years and hearing Josh say "Two Major Attractions" and think the vibes and attractions were going to match my high expectations.

I can't lie, I'm pretty disapointed if we're just getting a spinner, dinner show (I'll never go to because it's too expensive), another Slinky coaster that's not E-Level themed, and a dark ride that just features one Villain and not "a place where all the Villains gather".

If it’s all to be believed, I’m shocked they’re not going with the TDS Pan ride system (basically Spider-man) for the E-Ticket, could have been a good exciting thrill/dark ride hybrid that MK doesn’t really have. Shanghai PotC ride system is very cool too but will definitely lead to a slower paced ride, I hope it plays out right.

Yzma coaster? Cool idea! Slinky Dog level thrill (and maybe theming)? Colossal miss. This would have been THE spot for a Velocicoaster level coaster that breaks the mold for MK.

Sounds like this is just New New Fantasyland, really should have been tonally something more intense. Hope I’m wrong.

tom bricker has posted his opinion on the matter
Great article, all things wonderfully articulated and analyzed.

I dont think you are being unreasonable. But then early concept art can always be iffy, especially since D23 Expo has pushed Disney to announce things that they really aren't ready to announce.

There is something else that will likely surface soon that is perhaps even bigger.
I don’t think they’re going with Yzma. MK doesn’t need another family coaster, and the budget being increased (doesn’t matter when, but it was indeed increased), implies the opposite.

Time will tell.

General idea of how Villains Land could be laid out..

Was this the old plan before the updates?
If it’s either coaster or e dark ride, I’d choose dark ride. If both are on the table then…

totally agree.

But a Villains Land needs two E ticket headliners.

Star Wars should’ve done the dark ride (rise) and coaster (speederbike/podracing).

That’s what Hogsmeade did with Forbidden Journey (needs an update) and Hagrid’s.

Villains Land has to. Anything short would be a mistake, and a goofy kids ride is not it, if they do a third ride sure, but it would make sense to do like a c ticket track ride and not another coaster since the park has so many for kids. This isn’t fantasy springs, these are villains.

Per this report, the idea is a large indoor boat ride, a coaster and a flat ride. Personally I’m fine if the coaster is only moderately intense - I think aiming for somewhere in the 40-44” height requirement is fine.
That’s what has been rumored for years. What we don’t know is if the boat ride is like Shanghai pirates (it probably is) and if the coaster is a family one or something more like Taron/Hagrid’s. I doubt it’s VelociCoaster in thrill; Shanghai shows they think their castle parks gain appeal with thrilling coasters and mega budget dark rides equally.

Flat ride is a good idea, but the park doesn’t need another spinner. Good god, they don’t need 5.

WestCOT revival? I know, but one can dream.
This has basically been the rumor for Shanghai, and Disneyland Resort could absolutely support another park at some point. Seems like a no brainer, and it would also make sense. They could replace and clone the new Imagination rides to share budget for instance.

So maybe we get Shanghai Pirates tech for Villains along with some other fun stuff, and DL get the tech to use with Avatar in a 3rd gate. They did pause of the Avatarland area right?
Avatar is still happening at DCA.

They announced it way too soon, frankly, should’ve waited for this D23.

People are sleeping on the Shanghai Pirates tech. The ride system if paired with a $500M budget instantly gives it the potential to be the best ride ever made, the one in Shanghai arguably is in terms of scale.
