News Josh D’Amaro Named Next CEO of The Walt Disney Company

I also think artificially limiting a CEO search to outsiders is pretty bad advice, to be frank.
If there was anybody inside the company who actually seemed trustworthy and not under the influence of Iger I would agree and you don't get that high in the company by disagreeing with your boss.

If you’re asking for when they’re gonna fix it in Florida, I’d imagine when Monsters opens would be the first good opportunity to send Rise into it’s first refurb. Any sooner would be detrimental to DHS.
Will this be the refurb where they change it to fit in with the Star Wars movies that are actually popular?

What I want to see is a just a little free thought. Within his 1st year, come out and say he didn't agree with something that was done under Bob. He doesn't have to mention his name, call him out. Just say X change was a mistake. It can be anything from the destruction of Future World to the new toilet paper selection at Club 33.

While I agree, the word mistake will never be used. Something would just quietly be changed or announced as a new change.

It is super common for new CEOs to carve their own path and make the decisions they wish to make in regards to the company they now are in charge of. Not sure where this narrative of “everyone that worked under Iger will be an Iger robot” came from, but that’s not how life or people work. Josh will be making his own decisions. Some of them might even be ones Iger may have made as well, but this thought that he’s going to run the same exact play book is a bit ridiculous. And here’s a thought, let’s see what the man actual does first and then discuss. Gasp!

Recent history is where some of this narrative comes from. Chapek was not allowed to make his own decisions without Iger undermining him. What makes you think Iger is willing to let go and allow Josh to chart his own course, should he want to? Until Iger completely steps away, he is always going to have a level of control, and the rest of the board will be with him.

We all know Chapek was never meant to be the successor, and that Iger’s departure at that time was directly related to the oncoming pandemic. Don’t pull 1 example that has a bunch of asterisks attached to it and act like that is the end all example of a Disney CEO, because that is not the case. I have worked at very large companies with CEO changes. Some keep things fairly the same, some put their mark on it by making big changes. To speculate that Josh is going to be an Iger robot is negligent at this point. Now if in a year or two he does nothing but lead from the Iger playbook, then we’ll know our answer.

You said you weren't sure where the narrative was coming from, so I gave an example related to recent history of the company we are discussing to provide some detail on that. Don't shoot the messenger. People are speculating Josh will follow the same path, either because Iger is going to keep him in line or because Josh wants to follow that path. And you are speculating that Josh will forge his own path. But to brush off those with the opposite opinion is somewhat weird based on what we know of Iger and what we know of Josh.

Chapek immediately restructured the company putting accountants in charge of content distribution. Iger didn't like that.

So... if Chapek's decisions were being undercut by Iger, how did this restructuring happen?

I imagine you read the articles related to the back dealings and how Chapek felt he was being undercut by Iger with every step. This isn't new news. For good or bad, Iger continued to butt in and not allow Chapek to lead. I guess with this you can make the argument that Chapek was NOT a robot of Iger's and therefore paid the price.

how is the ex-CEO going to keep the new one in line? It doesn’t work like that
