News Wait Times Hit 3-Hour as Presidents' Day and Mardi Gras Collide at Disney World

You can blame Easter for Mardi Gras. Easter Day is determined by the full moon so moves around year to year. This year Easter Day is April 5. Ash Wednesday is 40 days prior (not counting Sundays. 46 counting Sundays) which is tomorrow, making Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), the prior day, today. So, yeah, big mess this year.

Mardi Gras and President's Day will be in separate weeks next year, Tuesday, February 9, 2027, and Monday, February 15, 2027.

Are there a lot of discounts for this time? If so maybe that would explain the large numbers.
Nah. The three-day weekends are always packed no matter what time of year it is.

The three-day weekends, Christmas week, and special events (e.g., the opening of a new ride) are the only times reservations really matter. But, for those times, it prevents three hour lines for the restrooms.

Does one side of Space ever go down while the other operates? Or do both shutdown if there's an issue? Reddit was claiming it's been down a lot over the last few days, wasn't sure if they can run at reduced capacity or not

The creation of LLMP, ILL and LLPP systems has broken things things so badly and is why we see these huge waits.

We see LLPP SELLING OUT (at about $350 each) IN THE MIDDLE OF January!!!

The thing is, the more broken the system is, the more money Disney makes!!!!

…as it does quite often during those “exclusive, extra magic Minutes for cherished on property guests”
I’ve been to the parties, extra hours, etc. and I don’t remember a significant wait at Space Mountain, probably because of the limited number of people allowed at those events.

Are you saying they should operate both sides even if they’re not needed? Are there certain times or events where the line backs up?

But I hear nothing but swooning with Universal's system which is infinitely worse.

I don’t think so. WDW has always had long lines because it’s a popular venue.

I remember avoiding lines in the 1980’s because of how long they were. I’ve negotiated the parks from all standby to the current iteration. Always long lines especially at busy times.

Several people have chimed in with solutions that work best for them but Disney needs to satisfy everyone. These days all parks have paid line skip systems because people want them. The problem with WDW is that it’s bigger and more popular.

I do not remember three hour waits for Space mountain in the month of January in the 80s

Maybe someone has data from back then.
