MK New Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Updates Coming to Walt Disney World

Disneyland's Tomorrowland needs some complete and total redesign at this point... The need to figure out how to solve the Peoplemover Tracks issue and get a new ride system installed ( or built from scratch). It is ridiculous that they have kicked the can down the road on that most visible ride for literally 26 years now...
Our Tomorrowland Definitely needs a lot of work as well... Something to make it feel more cohesive and immersive and allow it to tell a story... The last iteration (When it was new) did that pretty well...but needed more... Losing the two entrance attractions that underlined the theme of the area hurt the overall...Now it is just a mess. Maybe the Speedway complete ground-up redo would also add an additional attraction to the area and more theming to really make it feel futuristic again... And hopefully not like the Shanghai Tomorrowland that looks like a corporate office park....

That seems to be a signature element of most Iger-era WDI projects.
Not ... really? This complaint surfaces only for Tomorrowland, Future World, and Avengers areas, largely because that aesthetic thematically fits with them, even if you don't like it or don't think it's a particularly good choice for a themed environment. There have been far more examples of other styles being used during his tenure.

yesterday TPM suggested it's likely because of the asbestos....idk

Of course they would. Walt Disney World undertook a major asbestos abatement project a quarter of a century ago. There are also known ways of dealing with asbestos containing materials. Many buildings around Walt Disney World that date to the 1970s and utilized asbestos have had renovations and even reconfigurations in the decades since the 1980s.

  • I feel Speedway's "got to go;" it's going to look even more run-down/dated/basic/unPC/etc. after Piston Peak opens. Like w/TSI, they don't have to worry about Utilidoors, or even much demo relatively speaking. It should be the next attraction to get the "chopping block" imo...but only for something really WOW.
My push here continues to be for something akin to Aquatopia from DisneySea. It's inherently themed from all sides (which is necessary considering it's basically surrounded), it helps offset the loss of a major water feature on the opposite side of the park, and it transitions way better from Fantasyland in Tomorrowland. You could even add a Nautilus prop into the nook behind Mad Tea Party for good measure.

I've thought Aquatopia would be a nice addition to the central spine at Epcot but this is a good idea as well.

you just reminded me of all the extra bodies of water in the "blue sky" EPCOT redo rendering
Which art? The initial one for this round of changes had a central fountain and suggested the existing water around the bridge to World Showcase would be reshaped slightly (as well as the bridge itself), but beyond that, I don’t recall it indicating any other water that wasn’t built (i.e. Moana).

I just took another good look at it. You're right. But it still looks amazing.

It was visually better, but I’m honestly kind of glad it didn’t come to fruition. We ultimately lost about a quarter of the indoor space in World Celebration. That art suggested we’d lose in the neighborhood of 60-70% of it. It removed what is now Creations, it lopped off a massive chunk of Project Tomorrow (including the area where Geo-82 now resides), and had an even smaller and less accessible Festival Center. As disappointing as the central feature area and CommuniCore Hall are, they feel a lot more correctable than knocking down almost every indoor space in the center of a Florida park.

The only reason Communicore Hall exists is because of Covid. Not that I cared for the original plan either and if it were up to me Communicore West would still be standing.

I’m hoping whoever takes over as CEO wants to use EPCOT’s 50th (and perhaps Tomorrowland, circling back to the thread) to make their mark on the parks since the other ongoing things will still be seen as belonging to Iger.
It really depends on what kind of "mark" they make.

I mean... It's not impossible that West could eventually return. It'd be tough to do financially (and otherwise) in terms of justification, but it's not impossible, especially if they find a reason to have it.

It should not have been demoed to begin with, and I have never seen Disney ever re-build something they have demolished or ever admit it made a mistake in anything.

The Communicore buildings seemed to be the very last ones constructed (assembled?) before the 1982 opening....the above-ground part didn't seem to take long at all (if I have time, I'll double-check this timeframe...but it seemed to be less than a few months).

And, imo, they simplified the buildings for/after Innoventions revamp (especially getting rid of multiple levels in much of the buildings (2nd floors, "sunken" floors, etc)....

They also went through great pains to save the "basement" of the "West" building in the most recent revamp.

So at least a "one-half" (doubt Moana's ever going away) recreation to the 1994 format would be a happy, reasonably "doable" compromise....with the 1982 windows (it seemed that's the one part they got right with the "East" building refurb)? 🤷‍♀️
