Distinction between "theme park enthusiast" and "Disney Adult"

If anyone tries to give me a hard time at my job about going to Disney I’m just going to get all excited about it and tell them the specifics of how fun it is. Slightly unrelated but I also tell customers to have a magical day when they leave.

…umm…you’re years away from that scenario

Does the internet agree it’s ok to universally hate beauty influencers because they should be studying and donating their money to charity instead of going to Sephora? No, because they are considered “cooler”. This isn’t about moral concerns, it’s about social status.
Yes. I despise any "influencer" or "digital creator".

And the internet - social media thing, the "Disney Adults" being mocked aren't just random folks who love Disney. They put themselves out there for audiences to judge, good or bad. Nobody is walking into random ppls homes or businesses and "bullying" them for being Disney fanatics.

Besides Disney, baseball is another big fandom of mine. If I were to selfie record myself walking into a stadium and start sobbing with joy when seeing Shohei Ohtani doing batting practice, then upload said video onto social media for the world to view, (similar to the "Seeing Cinderella Castle For The First Time" viral videos)... I would EXPECT judgement and mockery for my behavior.

If you put yourself on stage, the world reacts.

I suppose you’re right but with an exception for the Backstreet Boys.

Right

It’s posted and reposted to get attention

Or even worse…”engagement”…trying to profit with no skills or work.

The vlogger culture makes it much worse

Like lost 20 somethings walking about the park daily taking pictures of construction walls and calling it “breaking news”

It’s “stupidity for profit”

If we were 100% talking about influencers, maybe I could see that, but I don’t think these videos specify that. They just say they’re referring to “Disney Adults”, which means anyone who watches a video like that and is into Disney could see themselves as the one being mocked.

Looking back at it, it's not as meanspirited as it sounds, or direct "attacks" toward her.

In a nutshell, apparently someone in that group was either napping or resting in one of the resort lobbies. He wound up photographed and showcased in one of her TR's in a not so flattering fashion. His daughter (a member here??) saw the photo. It sparked a big debate in that group over whether or not people should be ridiculed in other people's TR's who aren't "throwing themselves out there on the big stage", yet public is public, so... ?

It was awhile ago, and that's when the "Tu Invested" and "You'll Get Paparazzi'd Tu (too)" puns started flying around.
Not directly attacking anyone on a personal level it seems.

The way I see it, if you're in public, especially a busy place such as a WDW resort lobby, being seen or photographed shouldn't come off as a big surprise. It can easily happen.

I should hope not. No one deserves mean-spirited mockery less than that kind woman.

People can enjoy vacations wherever they like, however often they like, provided they can afford it.

A whole lot of people appreciate her trip reports, both for entertainment, and for practical information - myself included.

Of course.

It throws a lil shade at a minimum…but it’s kinda a weird chatboard thing anyway…like the vloggers

Not for the “non-magical” 8 billion people in the cruel real world 🌎

I think posting pictures of people in public should be off limits. Occasionally I’ll get a video in my feed of someone claiming someone else at Disney did this or that (kept running into them with a scooter in line, left their baby unattended in a stroller, said something racist,) but it’s always an after the fact situation and you have no idea whether it really happened or not. That’s dangerous territory where people could easily defame someone for clicks (and the internet being full of bots and thoughtless people, it just turns into a hurricane of mob shaming with no one stopping to think they don’t know if said story is true.) Rarely is there enough context from a picture a random stranger took of another person in the parks to justify the internet sh*tshow that follows.

In a world where we are moving towards it being socially unacceptable to bully people for differences, why is openly mocking DAs for basically just being naive and nerdy still totally fair game?

Because the ignorance of the fandom actively makes the experience worse for other people. If you're a fan of what Disney once did creatively in its parks, it's clear that a lot of that has been destroyed under Iger/Chapek has been replaced with a lesser product. The level of detail and creativity from the older eras of Imagineering are no longer there, because the goal is no longer themed environments and storytelling, but rather advertising Disney brands.

As an example, why is Animal Kingdom getting Tropical Americas? On the surface, it seems like it fits the theme of the park, but it's really a Disney Brand Land, including a Disney animal character carousel, Encanto and Indiana Jones. They have what to do with the park exactly? It's very clearly an approach of creative bankruptcy, seeking out a very specific demographic of people who don't enjoy themed spaces but instead go to the parks to view the iconography of Disney owned characters. Disney does almost nothing but this type of project any longer and the issue is that you'll see rabid fans at D23 clapping and screaming for every new mediocre thing that the company produces.

I think if you're the kind of person who does that, then you clearly qualify as a Disney Adult, as in, someone who engages with the Disney brand so superficially that you'll endorse everything it does. It's harmful because it's a huge form of positive feedback to the executives, who will continue to make more poor decisions that actively harm the parks. How many times have I seen people make excuses for this company when people point out its other issues too?

"Well don't go then, just shorter lines for me"

"No one ever did that attraction anyways, Disney is a business after all"

"Yeah, the garbage cans were overflowing and all the rides were down, but the magic still isn't gone"
